Coffee exports continued to be a bright spot for the Vietnamese economy in the first half of 2025. In June alone, Vietnam exported 130,000 tons of coffee, earning $741.1 million.

In the first six months of the year, exports reached nearly 954,000 tons with a record value of $5.45 billion, an increase of 5.3% in volume and 67.5% in value compared to the same period last year. According to forecasts from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), in the 2025-2026 crop year, Vietnam is expected to produce approximately 31 million 60kg bags of coffee.

The USDA stated that Vietnam's production increase is primarily driven by robusta coffee. Robusta production is projected to reach a record 24.1 million bags, a 15% increase compared to the previous crop year, thanks to favorable weather conditions in key growing regions.

Previously, farmers' conversion of coffee land to durian and pepper plantations led to a decline in coffee production. However, as coffee prices rebounded while durian and pepper prices cooled, some areas are returning to developing coffee as a primary crop.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market have fallen sharply on both exchanges:

Robusta coffee (London):

September 2025 delivery: Decreased by $131/ton, to $3,437/ton.

November 2025 delivery: Decreased by $130/ton, to $3,378/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

September 2025 delivery: Down 1.7 cents/lb, to 283.9 cents/lb.

December 2025 delivery: Down 1.85 cents/lb, to 278.6 cents/lb.

Brazil's Cooxupe cooperative, the country's largest coffee exporter, said its farmers have harvested 40.4% of their projected crop for the 2025-2026 season. This represents a 9 percentage point increase from last week, but remains significantly lower than the 51.6% recorded at the same time last year.

Brazil currently plays a major role in the global coffee market, accounting for approximately 30% of the total coffee traded. To expand production, the country is boosting new plantings. Louis Dreyfus Co. forecasts that expanding planted area and improving productivity could help Brazil add an extra 23 million bags of coffee over the next 10 years. Last year, the country exported more than 46 million bags of coffee.

Data from the consulting firm StoneX shows that Brazil planted an additional 300 million robusta coffee seedlings in 2025. Although it takes about three years to harvest, this number is expected to add approximately 2 million bags of coffee, significantly contributing to future supply.

The expansion of production in Brazil is a positive sign, especially as many other coffee-producing countries are being affected by frost and drought. Increased production will not only help stabilize the market but also reduce pressure on prices, which have remained high despite recent downward adjustments.
