Disease control and herd restoration in Quang Ngai
The work of preventing African swine fever in Quang Ngai has brought about clear results after many months of applying synchronous measures. Since the beginning of October 2025, the locality has not recorded any new outbreaks, opening up opportunities for people to safely restore their herds.
Many other livestock farmers in the area choose to restore their herds on a small scale, while focusing on fully implementing biosecurity procedures, periodically disinfecting barns and vaccinating with necessary vaccines.
According to information from the Quang Ngai Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, from July to September, the epidemic spread to 58 communes and wards, forcing the destruction of more than 75,000 pigs, affecting about 10,500 households. After controlling the situation, the province implemented a herd restoration support program including providing high-quality pig breeds, disinfectants, vaccines and technical care instructions.
Ms. Le Thi Hong Van - Head of the Animal Husbandry Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai - said that the locality is focusing on instructing people to re-raise herds in a biosafety manner, to minimize the risk of disease recurrence.
“We recommend that people only buy piglets from reputable establishments with quarantine certificates, and must be fully vaccinated not only against African swine fever, but also against foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza. The agricultural sector will also support vaccines, disinfectants and techniques to help farmers restore their herds effectively and sustainably,” Ms. Van emphasized.
Thanks to effective disease control and the gradual recovery of pig supply, pig prices are expected to remain stable in the short term, creating favorable conditions for farmers to prepare food for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
