Market analysis

According to reports, despite being in the off-season, the prices of Ri6 and Monthong durians in the Mekong Delta have increased by about 30% compared to October. The main reason is believed to be the strong recovery in import demand from the Chinese market, causing a localized supply shortage.

Ms. NT, a durian wholesaler in Dong Thap , said that the high volume of imported goods has driven up prices. A survey at Hai Lien wholesaler (Dong Thap) also shows this trend: Ri6 durian grade A is being purchased at 75,000 – 76,000 VND/kg, grade B at 60,000 – 61,000 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 30% compared to the end of October. Similarly, Monthong durian grade A has recovered to 100,000 – 105,000 VND/kg, at times reaching a peak of 118,000 – 120,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Van Khiem, a farmer in Dong Thap, shared that the purchase price at the farm for Ri6 grade A is 71,000 VND/kg and grade B is 67,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Monthong grade A fetches a significantly higher price, around 120,000 VND/kg at the farm.
