The Dong Nai River Road Project not only plays a role in traffic connection, but is also expected to create urban space and landscape, exploiting the advantages of the Dong Nai River.
Complete project adjustment and design in July
The Dong Nai River Road Project is one of the key projects of the province. The project has a length of about 5.2 km, started construction at the end of 2021 and is expected to be completed after about 2 years of construction. However, the project implementation process was delayed due to difficulties in site clearance.
By the end of 2024, the project's site clearance work will be basically completed, and contractors will speed up the implementation progress. However, a new problem has arisen, affecting the progress of this project.
Specifically, in the planning of the construction of the Dong Nai riverside road, the ancient villa Vo Ha Thanh will be cleared about 9m, equivalent to about half of this construction within the planning scope of the project. Meanwhile, the ancient villa Vo Ha Thanh is a construction with many cultural, historical and architectural values. Many experts and scientists have commented that it is necessary to adjust the planning to retain this construction for preservation.
In response to public opinion, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to review and propose plans to preserve the ancient villa of Vo Ha Thanh. The plan to "straighten" the road along the Dong Nai River passing through the ancient villa area of Vo Ha Thanh to preserve the project was approved for implementation.
To implement the plan to "straighten" the Dong Nai riverside road and preserve the ancient villa of Vo Ha Thanh, it is necessary to locally adjust the zoning plan of Buu Long ward (old), now Tran Bien ward, as well as adjust the project documents. At the end of June 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued a decision approving the local adjustment of the zoning plan at a scale of 1/2,000 of Buu Long Tourist and Residential Area, Buu Long ward (old), now Tran Bien ward, to implement the above plan.
Director of Project Management Board Area 1 Nguyen Ton Trong said that after the Provincial People's Committee approved the local adjustment of the 1/2,000 scale zoning plan of Buu Long Tourist and Residential Area, Buu Long Ward (old), now Tran Bien Ward, the unit is implementing the project adjustment and design work to soon continue construction of the project through the ancient villa area of Vo Ha Thanh.
"The project adjustment and design work is being accelerated to be completed in July 2025," said Mr. Nguyen Ton Trong.
The Dong Nai Riverbank Road Project has a total investment of nearly 2 trillion VND from the state budget. The project started construction at the end of 2021. About a year later, the Dong Nai Riverbank Construction Project along the route of the Dong Nai Riverbank Road with a total investment of more than 613 billion VND was started. Currently, the Dong Nai Riverbank Construction Project has been basically completed.
Get the project to the finish line soon
The Dong Nai River Road Project is expected to change the urban face of Tran Bien ward with the goal of creating an urban landscape space along the Dong Nai River.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ton Trong, with the final problem of the project related to the area passing through the ancient villa of Vo Ha Thanh having been resolved, the Project Management Board of Area 1 is asking contractors to speed up the construction progress to complete the construction work soon. The plan is that the Dong Nai River Road Project will complete all construction work in October 2025.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Long, Director of Van Nga Phat Company Limited, a member of the project construction consortium, said that for the Dong Nai River Road Project, the last part of the route has basically been completed, with the construction of the second layer of asphalt concrete. The progress of the first part of the route is slower due to the late handover of the site. Particularly, the section of the route passing through the ancient villa area of Vo Ha Thanh, the construction had to be temporarily suspended so that the authorities could carry out procedures to adjust the planning, adjust the project, and "straighten" the route to preserve this project.
"The contractor has prepared human resources and equipment so that when the authorities complete the procedures, they will concentrate all their forces on constructing this section of the route to speed up progress and soon complete the project," said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Long.
