According to a representative from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the exam format structure is a crucial basis for building the question bank and creating the exam questions for the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi, based on the 2018 General Education Program.
Based on the structure and format of the entrance exam for 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requests that district education departments strengthen the development of question banks and test matrices according to the required learning outcomes of each subject; and encourages schools to build digital libraries of test questions.
Schools need to adopt appropriate exam formats for each subject, paying attention to objective multiple-choice questions to familiarize 9th-grade students with them. At the same time, they should increase the use of multiple-choice questions, including: multiple-choice questions with four options to choose from; true/false questions (each question has four parts, each part being either true or false); and short-answer questions.
To address the issue of students merely memorizing lessons or copying content from available materials, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training advises that, for the Literature subject, it is necessary to avoid using texts and excerpts already studied in textbooks as materials for testing and evaluating reading comprehension and writing skills in periodic tests.
Of the seven subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam under the 2018 General Education Program, Mathematics and Literature are essay-based. The remaining subjects – Foreign Language, Natural Sciences , History and Geography, Civic Education, and Informatics – are multiple-choice.
