In response to the concerns of students and parents, on March 20, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the number of subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam will be announced early next week, after the Hanoi People's Committee approves the primary school enrollment plan.
The entrance exam for grade 10 in Hanoi consists of 4 subjects, including 3 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language and the 4th subject is randomly selected by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, announced in March every year. However, in recent years, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hanoi has eliminated the 4th subject.
In 2020, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2020-2021 school year in Hanoi returned to 3 subjects to reduce the difficulties for students going through the pandemic. In 2021, the entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year was held with 4 subjects. But the following years returned to 3 subjects. Thus, the decision to take 3 or 4 subjects is decided each year, for that reason, every year in March, parents and teachers in Hanoi are anxiously waiting for the Department of Education and Training to finalize the announcement of 3 or 4 subjects.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the number of students participating in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year increased by about 5,000 students compared to the previous school year. The pressure to compete for public schools is therefore greater than in previous years. However, the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training shared that in the 2024-2025 school year, the city will continue to implement many solutions to ensure enough places for students, meeting the learning aspirations of 100% of junior high school graduates. The city currently has many types of schools for junior high school graduates to choose from, including public schools, private schools, vocationaleducation - continuing education centers, vocational education institutions, colleges, etc.
Among the types of schools, the quota for grade 10 admission to public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year still accounts for more than 60%. Accordingly, if students do not meet the requirements for grade 10 admission to public schools, they can refer to and register for admission to other types of schools. Currently, many private high schools have announced preliminary admission orientations for the 2024-2025 school year. Parents and students register for admission online, without having to go directly to school to line up like previous years.
