In response to concerns from students and parents, on March 20th, representatives from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced that the number of subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam will be revealed early next week, after the Hanoi People's Committee approves the enrollment plan for the first grade.
The Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam consists of four subjects, including three compulsory subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language, and a fourth subject chosen by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training through a random draw, announced annually in March. However, in recent years, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hanoi has dropped the fourth subject.
In 2020, the Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam for the 2020-2021 school year reverted to three subjects to alleviate the difficulties faced by students during the pandemic. In 2021, the entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year was held with four subjects. However, in subsequent years, it reverted to three subjects. Thus, the decision on whether to have three or four subjects varies each year, which is why every year in March, parents, students, and teachers in Hanoi eagerly await the final announcement from the Department of Education and Training regarding the three or four subjects for the exam.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the number of students applying for admission to 10th grade in high schools for the 2024-2025 school year has increased by approximately 5,000 compared to the previous year. Therefore, the pressure of competition for places in public schools is also greater than in previous years. Nevertheless, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training shared that in the 2024-2025 school year, the city will continue to implement many solutions to ensure sufficient school places for students, meeting the educational aspirations of 100% of students graduating from junior high school. The city currently has many types of schools for junior high school graduates to choose from, including public schools, private schools, vocational education and continuing education centers, vocational training institutions, and colleges…
Among different types of schools, the enrollment quota for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year still accounts for over 60%. Therefore, if students do not meet the eligibility requirements for admission to public high schools, they can consider and apply to other types of schools. Currently, many private high schools have announced preliminary enrollment guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year. Parents and students can register online, eliminating the need to queue in person at the school as in previous years.
