Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan has just issued a plan to overcome flooding in the area. The plan aims to speed up the development progress and complete the drainage system according to the planning. Along with that, it proposes a number of solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles, in which the focus is on solutions to invest in urgent projects to quickly overcome flooding when it rains heavily.
For areas that have invested in a complete drainage system such as the To Lich basin, Mr. Duong Duc Tuan requested to focus on promoting the drainage efficiency of the existing system, bringing water as quickly as possible to drainage sources and key pumping stations, ensuring fast drainage with rain of 310 mm/2 days and 70 mm/h.

For areas that have not received synchronous investment or have not received investment such as the left and right Nhue basins, relevant units need to organize and implement drainage system investment projects using budget capital according to regulations.
In urban areas, it is necessary to ensure synchronous connection with the city's general drainage network, limit flooding; control illegal dumping of materials, waste, mud, construction soil... causing blockage of drainage systems in urban areas and surrounding areas.
Regarding specific solutions, Mr. Duong Duc Tuan requested to strengthen the management, maintenance and upkeep of the drainage system; Strengthen the protection against encroachment of lakes and ponds, water surface areas to ensure landscape and serve urban drainage regulation; Complete the repair and maintenance of key works (pumping stations, regulating dams, culverts across the dike...) before the rainy season.
