Khanh Hoa: Reservoirs required to reduce water discharge to limit flooding

On December 4, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province issued a document requesting localities and units to proactively respond to heavy rain, floods, flash floods and landslides.

In particular, the province requires reservoir management units to adjust and reduce discharge flow, regulate appropriately to reduce flood peaks, and minimize the risk of flooding in downstream areas.

Commune-level People's Committees continue to inspect and review areas at high risk of flash floods, landslides, and prolonged deep flooding; proactively organize the relocation and evacuation of people to safe places according to the "4 on-site" motto.

For areas that have been warned of danger levels, evacuation must be completed before the flood situation becomes more complicated.

The Provincial Military Command and Provincial Police were assigned to mobilize forces and means to support flooded localities in the work of evacuating people...

According to Khanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 6 hours (from 4am to 10am on December 4), there was moderate rain in the area. Rainfall recorded at some stations such as Suoi Cat 21.6mm, Suoi Dau Lake 21mm... Soil moisture in some areas has reached near saturation level of over 85%.

In the next 6 hours, total rainfall will range from 5-30mm, higher in some places. Warning during the day and night of December 4, the areas of Suoi Dau, Suoi Hiep, Dien Khanh, Dien Dien, Dien Lac, Dien Tho, Tay Nha Trang, Bac Nha Trang, Nam Nha Trang... are at risk of flooding 0.5-2m deep, low-lying areas may be flooded over 3m.

Some schools let students stay home to avoid flooding.

On the morning of December 4, due to the complicated situation of rain and floods, some schools in Khanh Hoa province proactively informed students to stay home to ensure safety. Water levels in many places continue to rise, although they have not yet flooded into school grounds, the risk of flooding is high.

In Dien Khanh commune, 14/14 schools let students off on December 4; 8/8 schools in Dien Dien commune also announced that students are temporarily off. Particularly in Tay Nha Trang ward, schools that let students off include: Vinh Trung Kindergarten, Vinh Trung Primary School, Cao Thang Secondary School, Luong Dinh Cua Secondary School, Luong The Vinh Secondary School, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School...
