This morning (December 18th), Ha Long Shipbuilding Company launched the second of 14 state-of-the-art wind power service vessels built for a Dutch shipowner.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, General Director of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company Limited (Shipbuilding Industry Corporation - SBIC), said that the CSOV 8720 - YN552206 vessel, named Windcat Amsterdam, launched today is the second in a series of 14 wind power service vessels currently under construction for the shipowner.
Nguyen Tuan Anh, General Director of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company, pledged to continue perfecting the ship after its launch and deliver it on schedule.
In 2022 and 2023, Ha Long Shipbuilding Company Limited signed contracts with Damen Group - Netherlands for a series of 8 CSOV wind power service vessels.
In July 2024, the company continued to sign a contract with customer Damen for a series of 6 CSOV wind power service vessels, bringing the total number of CSOV vessels signed with Damen to 14.
The CSOV wind power service vessel is a type of service vessel that supports the offshore wind power industry. The vessel is over 88m long, 19.7m wide, has a design draft of 5.3m, and a gross tonnage of approximately 6,700 GT.
This is a complex vessel requiring a high level of expertise and skill in construction. The ship is equipped with all the latest technologies, ensuring a "green" approach, leading the way in carbon reduction in the maritime transport sector, featuring hydrogen engines, environmentally friendly technology; a modern dynamic navigation system; and staircases to transport personnel from the ship to the world's largest wind turbines, as well as rooms for workers to live in for extended periods.
"In October 2024, the company successfully launched the first CSOV 8720 vessel. The launching of the second CSOV 8720 vessel today marks the beginning of a new journey in striving to achieve its goal: a strong determination to assert the position of Vietnam's shipbuilding industry in the international market."

Mr. Tran Manh Ha, Acting General Director of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, suggested that Ha Long focus its human resources on completing the ship to ensure quality and timely completion.
Congratulating Ha Long Shipbuilding Company and Damen Group, Mr. Tran Manh Ha, Acting General Director of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, emphasized that the launching ceremony of the CSOV No. 2 vessel not only marks an important milestone in the cooperation between Damen and Ha Long but also is a source of pride for Vietnam's shipbuilding industry.
This product line fully meets the stringent international technical, safety, and quality requirements set by the Damen Group, thereby affirming the skill, capacity, intelligence, and craftsmanship of Vietnamese shipbuilders in the international shipbuilding market.
The second wind power service vessel has been successfully launched.
