Securing one point away from home against Hai Phong FC in the opening match of the 2023-2024 V-League season on October 20th is considered a success by coach Kiatisak. According to the HAGL coach, this year, Chairman Duc only spent money on two foreign players, while the rest are existing players and youth players promoted from the team.

"That shows our youth training program is on the right track. Since last season, HAGL Club has focused on youth development for the future. Gradually, our homegrown players have been playing better. We respect all players but are not afraid of anyone; our goal is to win the V-League championship," Zico Thai shared, adding that the upcoming match against Hanoi Police Club is an early final of the season.

Sharing this view, Hai Phong FC coach Chu Dinh Nghiem further expressed his wish that Vietnam's VAR system had more cameras to operate more smoothly and efficiently. In the match at Lach Tray Stadium, the referees had three rather dramatic VAR checks at minutes 32, 51, and 72. This resulted in 10 minutes of added time.
The joy of Hai Phong Club was not complete.
HAGL FC snatched a valuable point in injury time.
Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem expressed regret that his team lost the victory in the final minutes: "I reacted slowly by not bringing Mpande back to play center back after taking the lead. The players were also tense and couldn't fully implement the playing style that the coaching staff had set out. In addition, we didn't have anyone capable of replacing Hai Huy in controlling the game."
