Long An: Two chain-reaction collisions damaged six vehicles and injured two people, causing a traffic jam of about 10 km on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway on the afternoon of March 7.

At approximately 3:30 PM, a 7-seater vehicle with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, driven by a 39-year-old driver, was traveling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway towards the city. Upon passing through Thanh Phu commune, Ben Luc district, the vehicle was rear-ended by a truck, which then collided with a tanker truck, causing a chain-reaction accident.

The accident resulted in two people sustaining minor injuries. The front of the seven-seater car was crushed and deformed under the rear of the tanker truck. The rear of the tanker truck was also severely damaged and dented, with debris scattered on the road.

While authorities were dealing with the aforementioned collision, approximately 6 km away, in My Yen commune (Ben Luc district), an accident occurred involving a container truck, a cargo truck, and a 7-seater vehicle. The accident did not cause any casualties, but all three vehicles were damaged.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway, nearly 62 km long with 4 lanes, has been in operation since 2010 with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Five years ago, toll collection on the expressway stopped, and traffic volume subsequently increased by over 30%, reaching 40,000-50,000 vehicles per day, causing the road surface to become overloaded, damaged, and prone to accidents.

In the middle of last year, the highway was proposed to be expanded to 8 lanes, plus two emergency lanes, with a total investment of nearly 10,000 billion VND, and was expected to be completed after 4 years. The proposal was approved by the Government under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
