"I chose the CA2 exam because I am confident in literature," the candidate who just completed the 2024 high school graduation exam shared.

"After passing the local preliminary round a few months ago, I immediately registered for an online course specializing in preparing for the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment exam at the center, mainly to hone my essay writing skills and expose myself to many types of questions. These past few days, I have been studying until 1-2 am to keep up with the pace and not taking a break," said the student who wants to enter the People's Police University (District 7).

Thu Ngan, a student at Ben Cat High School (Binh Dinh), said that the day before, she, her mother and aunt had bought train tickets to Ho Chi Minh City to take the exam. To prepare for this competency assessment exam, the female student had to buy more reference books and practice sample questions because the Ministry of Public Security does not announce the official questions after each exam. "I mainly reviewed common types of questions because I did not know what the actual questions would be like," the female student shared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ma Van Tuan, from Ben Tre , said that because his family members work in the police force, his son had been thinking about joining the force since middle school. When he was in 10th grade, he officially started studying after learning that the Ministry of Public Security would organize a separate aptitude test for admission. "My son was under a lot of pressure, but I also encouraged him that if he didn't pass, he would go to pedagogical school to become a teacher," the male parent shared.

Mr. Duong, from Tien Giang, said that his son is currently a first-year student at the University of Information Technology, but still chose to retake the exam to compete for admission to the People's Police University. "Back then, he took the exam to enter the Army Officer School but failed, but because of his passion, he tried to study hard to find another opportunity. Now that he is taking the exam and seeing his son excited, I also encourage him to try to conquer his dream," said Mr. Duong.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, this is the third year the competency assessment exam has been held, attracting nearly 18,000 candidates, an increase of 20% compared to 2023. The exam results will be used to consider admission to 8 police schools according to method 3, which is combined with high school graduation exam scores, in which the competency assessment exam results account for 60%. About 80% of the more than 2,100 quotas for police schools in 2024 will be considered for admission in this way.

Notably, all universities and academies this year did not meet their direct admission quotas as planned. Most of the units announced that they would transfer the remaining quotas from methods 1 and 2 to method 3. Previously, there were 11 candidates admitted under method 1 (winning national and international prizes) and 116 candidates admitted under method 2 (having foreign language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 7.5 or higher).

The structure of the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment test consists of two parts: multiple choice and essay. The multiple choice part focuses on testing knowledge in the current high school curriculum, including knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences, and foreign languages; in the essay part, candidates can choose one of two contents: math (test code CA1) or literature (test code CA2). Candidates have a total of 180 minutes to complete the test.
