At 3:00 p.m. on June 16, 2025, while on duty, Quang Ha Commune Police in coordination with the Provincial Police discovered at the house of Vi Van Hai (born in 1994, residing in Dai Dien Nam Quarter, Quang Ha Commune) 3 subjects: Vi Van Hai, Nguyen Hong Quan (born in 1994, residing in Quang Dien Quarter, Quang Ha Commune), Phun A Dung (born in 1995, residing in Village 1, Quang Ha Commune) along with many exhibits serving the use of drugs. Expanding the investigation, the Provincial Police arrested, decided to initiate a criminal case, prosecuted Hai, Quan and Nguyen Van Son (born in 1999, residing in Quang Dien Quarter, Quang Ha Commune) for the act of "Organizing illegal use of drugs"; Nguyen Van Chung (born in 1992, residing in Ghenh Vo quarter, Quang Ha commune), Lo Van Hung (born in 2003, residing in Thanh Yen commune, Dien Bien province) for the act of "Illegal buying and selling of drugs".
At the Department of Mental Disorders Due to Addictive Substance Use (Provincial Mental Health Protection Hospital), a 17-year-old male patient had been using e-cigarettes, laughing gas, and synthetic drugs for 3 years due to being persuaded by friends, became addicted to e-cigarettes, and then switched to using other drugs. After a long time of drug dependence, the patient fell into a state of paranoia, his mind was dizzy, and his health was exhausted. The patient shared: " I regret it so much. My parents raised me to be a good person. Now my body is ruined, my mind is sometimes awake, sometimes unconscious, my whole body is paralyzed, I cannot take care of myself, how can I help my parents. Drugs not only harm me but also make my parents fall into unhappiness".
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Mental Health Hospital had 145 patients under 30 years old coming for examination and treatment related to drug use, of which about 5% were under 16 years old. The hospital is providing inpatient treatment for 330 patients; including 3 patients under 20 years old, 9 patients from 20-30 years old with mental disorders due to drug use . Notably, many of them are educated young people, have studied abroad or worked at large companies; have lost their future, fallen into a spiral of addiction and mental breakdown. In addition to health consequences, drugs are also the seed of many types of crime .
Along with detecting, preventing and destroying drug rings, propaganda,education and dissemination of the law are key solutions to raise awareness among young people to prevent drugs. Many propaganda conferences, extracurricular activities, seminars, etc. are organized in key areas, businesses, schools, residential areas, etc.
On June 22, 2025, the Provincial Police coordinated with the TKV Youth Union and the Khe Cham Coal Company Youth Union to organize propaganda on drug prevention for the Company's Youth Union members in various forms (images, videos , Q&A exchanges). Thereby helping to raise awareness of drug prevention among young workers.
On June 26, 2025, the Provincial Mental Health Protection Hospital coordinated with the Youth Union of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (Provincial Police) to organize a training session on "Improving knowledge of drug law" for medical staff in the unit. Thereby, equipping them with necessary legal knowledge related to drug prevention; enhancing professional skills, closely coordinating between medical staff and functional forces in the fight against and handling situations related to drug users and abusers.
Drugs not only destroy the lives of individuals, but also threatens the development of the whole society. The fight against drugs requires the joint efforts of every family, school and community. Messages about drug prevention need to become a regular, continuous and long-term task .
