In early December 2025, Hanoi was always in a state of air pollution from early morning to night.
The fine dust layer covering the capital is like a hazy fog.
Both inner city and suburbs of the capital are polluted with air.
Fine dust covered the city, limiting visibility.
According to experts, the large temperature difference between day and night combined with the phenomenon of temperature inversion (temperature reversal) has made it difficult for fine dust to diffuse. This situation causes prolonged air pollution, causing impact and discomfort to people.
Air pollution in the capital is often at "red alert" levels and ranked in the world's top 10 on December 2.
Faced with the serious air pollution situation, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen has just signed and issued an official dispatch on strengthening urgent measures to control air pollution in the area.
The Hanoi Department of Construction is required to closely monitor investors and construction contractors, requiring 100% of construction sites to have strict dust control measures.
For many years, experts have pointed out three main factors affecting air pollution in Hanoi: external emission sources; local emission sources (from vehicles, industrial activities, etc.); and the influence of meteorological conditions.
Hanoi recommends that people limit outdoor activities as much as possible, and educational institutions suspend or adjust working and studying hours when air pollution is severe.
To reduce air pollution, Hanoi leaders assigned localities to direct environmental sanitation units to increase the frequency of street sweeping and vacuuming; use specialized vehicles to spray water to clean streets and suppress dust at main traffic routes and urban gateways.
