This is the second year Ark Oval Primary Academy has organized a Lunar New Year celebration program to showcase the diversity of cultures and celebrate the unique differences between traditional festivals for 600 students, teachers, and parents.
All students were instructed by their teachers to wear red and yellow clothing – colors symbolizing good luck and prosperity during the Lunar New Year.
Ark Oval Primary Academy is a top-ranked school in Croydon, boasting a history spanning over 150 years and featuring 67 languages spoken by students and teachers from 40 different countries.

Dr. Thoai Nguyen, Vice President of the International Women's Union of Vietnam (UK), and founder of the Vietnam International Award, expressed her deep gratitude to the school administration, teachers, students, and parents for attending the event introducing Vietnamese Tet culture.
The female doctor also presented Principal Shiraz Khan with a New Year's gift: a paper box printed with the Year of the Dragon design, containing various types of vermicelli, pho, and colorful noodles.
At the event, designer Anna Hoang, LOANI VN-UK Young Ambassador, and the British Born Vietnamese Talents group showcased traditional Vietnamese ao dai, recreating the distinctive features of Vietnamese Tet culture with apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, banh chung (traditional rice cake), lucky money envelopes, and New Year's greetings.
The children also had the opportunity to chat, participate in quizzes, sing and dance to the cheerful Tet songs on stage, together spreading the beauty of Vietnamese Tet culture to international friends.
The students were taught by Dr. Nguyen Nhu Thoai and Anna Hoang how to say New Year greetings in Vietnamese, and were guided through the process of wrapping banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), from selecting ingredients to the wrapping technique. These banh chung were also cooked for 10-12 hours, much to the children's delight.
At the same time, the children were also introduced to how Vietnamese people decorate their homes during Tet (Lunar New Year) and the custom of giving lucky money envelopes at the beginning of the year.
