Việt NamViệt Nam26/06/2024

On the morning of June 26th, at the meeting hall of Gia Thuy Commune People's Committee (Nho Quan District), the Department of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Institute of Intellectual Property Science and the Gia Thuy Commune People's Committee, organized a workshop to finalize the design of the collective trademark and the map of the "Gia Thuy Pottery" production area.

Workshop to standardize collective trademark design and production area map.

The delegates attending the workshop.

Gia Thuy pottery has a history of formation and development spanning over half a century. The Gia Thuy pottery village primarily produces products such as jars, vases, and flower pots, characterized by their unglazed, wood-fired, and handcrafted nature. The products are diverse in design, guaranteed in quality, and well-received by the market. However, to date, Gia Thuy pottery has not been registered for trademark protection and lacks a brand identity system.

At the workshop, representatives from the consulting firm presented the following: Agreement on the trademark owner, introduction of 5 logo designs for the "Gia Thuy Ceramics" brand, product catalog, sensory indicators, quality criteria for products bearing the "Gia Thuy Ceramics" brand, geographical zoning map, and regulations for the management and use of the collective trademark.

The delegates unanimously agreed that the Gia Thuy Ceramic Cooperative would be the entity responsible for registering the brand. They chose a logo design featuring images of earthenware jars and rice stalks, bearing the brand name "Gia Thuy Ninh Binh Ceramics," with clear lines suitable for printing on any material, and three main colors: yellow, brown, and red, symbolizing clay and rice.

The product categories registered for protection fall under category 21, specifically: earthenware for storage, tea sets, earthenware artworks (excluding porcelain, adding earthenware), and the trade of products listed in category 21 is permitted.

The map of the production and business area for Gia Thuy pottery products is defined to encompass the entire commune, not confined to the current planning zone, in order to create flexibility if the production area needs adjustment.

Regarding the criteria for products to be eligible to bear the "Gia Thuy Ceramics" logo, they must meet general criteria concerning origin, production process, and sensory characteristics, as well as specific criteria for fine art ceramics. The ceramic products must be produced in Gia Thuy commune, Nho Quan district, within the geographical area registered with the Intellectual Property Office.

Regarding the regulations on the management and use of collective trademarks, further research, supplementation, and amendment are needed before submitting the official application.

By supporting the protection of collective trademarks associated with geographical names, we contribute to enhancing the value of key local products, increasing competitiveness in the market, shifting production and business models towards large-scale production, and developing products from free trade to the production and business of intellectual property-protected products with controlled origin and quality. At the same time, we preserve, promote, and honor the value of products bearing the Gia Thuy Ninh Binh pottery brand.
