More than 9,000 drivers violated alcohol concentration in the first 4 days of traffic police deployment

According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security , during the four-day peak period of the 2024 Lunar New Year (from January 11th to the present), law enforcement agencies nationwide handled 39,981 cases of road traffic violations.

Of these, 9,098 cases involved drivers violating alcohol limits, while 8,239 cases involved speeding violations and 47 involved drug-related violations.

The number of overloaded vehicles penalized was 740; oversized vehicles accounted for 181 cases; and vehicle modifications totaled 7 cases.

The total amount of administrative fines imposed over the four days was more than 88.3 billion VND. In addition, authorities temporarily seized 13,087 vehicles and revoked 8,032 driver's licenses of various types.

Specifically on National Highway 1A, under the direct supervision and direction of the Traffic Police Department, units inspected 24,781 vehicles (4,187 passenger buses, 6,363 trucks, 3,876 cars, 1,432 container trucks, 8,862 motorcycles, and 61 other vehicles).

As a result, traffic police detected and issued violation notices to 4,919 cases (including 684 passenger buses, 918 trucks, 758 cars, 160 container trucks, 2,377 motorcycles, and 22 other vehicles). The total amount of fines was nearly 11 billion VND, and more than 1,000 driver's licenses of various types were revoked.

These included 772 cases of drunk driving, 13 cases of drug-related violations, and 1,675 cases of speeding violations.

The Traffic Police Department confirmed that the peak period plan to ensure traffic safety and social order on the aforementioned traffic routes will run until March 9th.

On the roads, traffic police nationwide are focusing on handling violations related to alcohol and drug use, speeding, driving in the wrong lane or section of the road; improper overtaking, stopping, and parking; vehicles with modified cargo beds, overloaded or oversized cargo; carrying more passengers than permitted; picking up and dropping off passengers in unauthorized locations, etc.

The focus of inspection and enforcement is on vehicles used for commercial transportation of goods and passengers on expressways, national highways, provincial roads, district roads, urban roads, and rural roads .
