Launched in late 2023, the Yamaha PG-1 caused a sensation when its suggested retail price was set at 31 million VND (including 10% VAT). Boasting an eye-catching design and a variety of colors, this naked underbone motorcycle (a type of motorcycle with the engine located under the main frame and a high handlebar for an upright riding position) not only attracted the attention of young people but also appealed to middle-aged customers.
In the initial sales period, the number of vehicles arriving at dealerships was limited, leading to price gouging for the Yamaha PG-1. Many private motorcycle dealers imported bikes from official showrooms to inflate prices, peaking at 40 million VND in Hanoi , especially for popular color options.

Not all dealerships were selling the Yamaha PG-1 at inflated prices in the initial period. Many authorized dealers still quoted customers the standard price, but did not specify a delivery date (Photo: Manh Tuan).
Months later, sales of this model cooled down but were still inflated by about 4-5 million VND. Only recently has the price of the Yamaha PG-1 returned to the suggested retail price at some dealerships in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with a fairly full range of colors for customers to choose from.
Even a dealer in Hung Yen quoted the Yamaha PG-1 at only 30 million VND, 500,000 VND lower than the listed price (including 8% VAT). However, a showroom in Dak Lak still sells this model for 35 million VND.
Experts explain that the inconsistent pricing of the Yamaha PG-1 across dealerships is due to each dealership's sales policy depending on the quantity of vehicles imported. If there are few vehicles but high demand, these dealerships tend to raise prices, and vice versa.
This is similar to the sales situation of Honda motorcycles at dealerships. For example, the Vision, a popular scooter model, continued to be sold at inflated prices at dealerships in June. Some dealerships quoted prices 2 million VND higher than the suggested retail price, while others sold it for up to 4 million VND more, depending on the version and color.

The Yamaha PG-1's equipment isn't particularly impressive; even the rear wheel still uses a drum brake. Nevertheless, this model still attracts the attention of Vietnamese customers thanks to its high degree of customization, satisfying the desire for "personalization."
With its round headlight design and separate handlebars, the Yamaha PG-1 quickly became a popular choice for customization after its release. The suggested retail price for this model is only 31 million VND, but many users are willing to spend an additional 20-30 million VND to customize it to their liking.
