Citybus, a bus operator in Hong Kong, said it has also tested hydrogen refueling stations for its new bus fleet. According to Citybus, recharging the hydrogen fuel takes only about 10 minutes.
The buses, along with charging stations, are expected to be put into service as early as January 2024. Hydrogen-powered buses are also known as "special air purifiers" because they are both a means of transportation that emits no pollutants and are capable of filtering fine dust particles. Hydrogen is also becoming a potential energy source for the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
Hong Kong is stepping up its efforts to develop a green transportation sector and plans to establish a hydrogen energy development strategy by 2024. By 2045, Citybus plans to replace all diesel buses with carbon-zero buses.
