On December 10th, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, inaugurated the Italian ODA medical building – a project constructed with preferential loan funds from the Italian Government , marking a new milestone in nearly 25 years of cooperation between the university and its Italian partners.
The ceremony was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, Marco Della Seta, representatives from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, professors from the University of Sassari (Italy), and leaders from various ministries and central agencies of Vietnam.
The ODA Italy building received a total investment of 171.9 billion VND , of which 5.6 million EUR was a preferential loan from the Italian Government.
The seven-story building, with a floor area of over 11,600m² , is considered a key project aimed at enhancing the training, research, and medical examination and treatment capabilities of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, especially in the fields of obstetrics, pediatrics , and advanced techniques.
In addition to investing in infrastructure, the project also equipped the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the university hospital with over 1.11 million EUR of modern equipment, including testing systems, operating room equipment, infection control systems, and many other high-tech devices.

Simultaneously, the Vietnam-Italy cooperation program has trained 4 doctoral students and 19 master's students at the University of Sassari (Italy), provided professional training for 4 staff members in the fields of hospital management, surgery, and neonatal care, and organized numerous academic exchanges, workshops, and online training courses between the two sides.
Professor Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, affirmed that putting the building into operation will help the university hospital have more high-quality medical services, better serving the people of Hue and the Central and Central Highlands regions. At the same time, the building will also enhance practical training and scientific research for the university's students.
Mr. Huy also stated that this project will elevate the cooperation in medical training between Italy and Vietnam, while strengthening the enduring friendship between the two countries.
This project also represents a concrete step towards realizing the goal of building Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy according to the national-level University -Institute model, aiming for international standards.
