The workshop on successful export guidance for women-owned businesses is part of the SheTrades - UPS Project in Vietnam, a collaboration between the Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the International Trade Center (ITC), an affiliate of the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The event aimed to: build market readiness for female entrepreneurs; strengthen the women's business ecosystem; and enhance support for young women.
Workshop on Successful Exporting for Women Entrepreneurs |
Attending the event were representatives from various management agencies, associations, industry sectors, women-owned and led businesses that are ready or nearly ready to export, private sector companies, financial institutions, and other stakeholders involved in the project implementation process.
According to Mr. Dao Viet Anh, Head of the International Relations Department of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, Vietnam has one of the highest rates of women-owned businesses in Southeast Asia, but most are micro- and small-scale, with 90% operating in the trade and service sectors. This is because, despite constitutional recognition of gender equality and increasing amendments to legal documents and regulations to maintain gender equality, female entrepreneurs in Vietnam still face certain limitations stemming from societal norms and expectations.
The workshop lasted two days and included three working sessions:
Part 1 : Building Market Readiness for Female Entrepreneurs. Female entrepreneurs will receive practical training on essential topics to enhance their businesses' competitiveness and access to new markets, focusing on export journeys, processes, market research, documentation, customs, and green solutions.
Part 2: Strengthening the Women's Business Ecosystem. Training of Trainers (ToT) on risk management, business resilience, and gender-sensitive tools and methodologies.
Part 3 : Meeting SheTrades Partners.
Specifically, the second day will include a networking component, a quick exchange between delegates to discuss new market and trade opportunities, and to promote connections between industry experts and female entrepreneurs.
| The workshop attracted a large number of female entrepreneurs. |
Speaking at the event, Ms. Ta Thi Kim Tuyen from Rươi Rice Field Ecological Joint Stock Company said that the event helped businesses gain an overview of the foundation they need to prepare and the steps they need to take/complete to implement export activities to foreign markets.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Pham Thi Thoa from NICOTEX Joint Stock Company expressed that, through the event, the company gained a preliminary understanding of export knowledge, export procedures, customs declarations, free trade agreements, and export support tools... to several other countries.
At the workshop, in addition to technical presentations from speakers, representatives from trade support organizations and industry associations shared their current programs and activities aimed at supporting businesses in general, and female entrepreneurs in particular, in order to strengthen the business support ecosystem and promote trade for women-owned businesses in Vietnam.
