At exactly 7:45 a.m. on July 16, as scheduled the previous afternoon, a number of retired officials from residential group 5, Phu Xuan ward (formerly Phu Hau ward), gathered at Mr. Vo Phuoc The's house to watch the live broadcast of the 10th session of the Hue City People's Council, term VIII.

Mr. Trinh Hung Truong, Secretary of the Party Cell of Residential Group 5, shared: “As the Party Cell Secretary and a voter, I always pay attention and follow all the meetings of the City People's Council. Not only to grasp the socio -economic development situation, but also to consider how the people's recommendations have been received and resolved. This is an important basis for the Party Cell to be able to provide official information to Party members and people at the meetings”.

Continuing, Mr. Vo Phuoc The added that local people had petitioned the authorities to inspect food safety and hygiene at the old Phu Hau Ward slaughterhouse. At this meeting, that petition was compiled and reflected. People hope that the authorities will soon inspect and handle the situation to ensure environmental hygiene in the area around the slaughterhouse.

Not only in the inner city, in Phu Loc commune (formerly Loc Binh commune), many voters also followed the meeting. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, a local resident, shared: “National Highway 49B has been repaired in the past, but now many sections have seriously degraded, with dangerous landslides. Some small drainage culverts are not guaranteed, causing flooding, cutting off the main road. Therefore, at the end of 2024, people have petitioned the competent authorities to survey and have a plan to fix it soon.”

Joy came to the people when at this meeting, the city leaders informed: The City People's Committee has directed the Department of Construction to review and supplement the flood information and warning system according to regulations, to ensure traffic safety.

The Foundation of a Government for the People

Hue City always clearly identifies that the connection between the parliament and voters is an important factor in every People's Council session. This is not just a technical process or legal procedure, but a bond between the government and the people, those who are directly affected by the decisions made.

People's Council meetings are where many important issues on economy, society, planning, budget, people's livelihood, etc. are discussed and decided. Without effective connection, voters' legitimate opinions and aspirations may be overlooked, making the policies issued impractical and difficult to put into practice.

Through the feedback and recommendations of voters, People's Council delegates have more basis to perform the function of supervising the activities of the government and functional agencies. It is not only a tool to detect violations and inadequacies, but also helps to promptly adjust policies that are not suitable to reality.

A typical example is at the 10th session, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong informed: After receiving a petition from the people about the pollution situation in the vacant land area of the old Huda Beer Factory on Nguyen Sinh Cung Street, which has been turned into a garbage collection point, the city has directed the functional units to quickly handle and clean up. At the same time, the investor of the construction project here is required to be responsible for maintaining environmental hygiene, not allowing the situation to recur.

Each session of the People's Council is not only an opportunity to pass resolutions, but also a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of the connection between the government and the people.
