Khanh Hoa province is studying a project to build a tunnel through Cu Hin mountain on the Nha Trang-Cam Ranh airport route, with an estimated total cost of 2,600-4,000 billion VND.
The above information was recently released by the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Transport in its plan for selecting contractors to prepare for the tunnel construction project through Cu Hin mountain.
The tunnel will connect the section from Song Lo River, Phuoc Dong commune (Nha Trang City) to Cam Hai Dong commune (Cam Lam district). This plan helps avoid the mountain pass, which is frequently affected by landslides and poses a traffic safety risk.

The local authorities have proposed three options for constructing the tunnel. Option 1 involves a 5.7km route with a 4.2km tunnel. Option 2 involves a 5.6km route with a 4.8km tunnel. Both options have their starting and ending points connecting Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in Nha Trang City and Cam Lam District.
The other option has a total length of 6km, with a 3.7km tunnel. Its starting point is on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in Nha Trang City, and its end point connects to Vinh Binh - Cu Hin Street.
The Department of Transportation proposed choosing option 1. This option has a total investment of 2,600-4,000 billion VND depending on the scale of construction, whether it includes 2 tunnels or 1 tunnel with 1 emergency escape tunnel.
The tunnel through the mountain, once operational, is expected to shorten the Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal road section at the Cu Hin pass by approximately 10km.
Currently, the Department of Transport has assigned the Provincial Transport Infrastructure Maintenance Management Board to select contractors to carry out consulting packages for surveying, preparing pre-feasibility study reports, and consulting on preparing dossiers for the policy of changing the purpose of forest land use, environmental impact assessment reports, etc.
Nearly 100 billion VND invested in expanding Nguyen Tat Thanh road section passing through Cam Ranh airport.
Road access to the airport in Nha Trang is closed to deal with a rock that poses a risk of rolling onto the road.
