In recent years, Ms. Tran Thi Hang - a Math teacher at Muong Khuong High School No. 2 (Ban Lau Commune) has applied technology to teaching. She often uses AI applications to create video lectures to help students access knowledge more easily and at the same time be interested in the lesson. Along with that, this tool helps to create questions and test questions quickly, suitable for each student; quickly and accurately calculate students' learning results, and provide orientation on knowledge content that needs to be supplemented...

There is no denying that AI-based learning aids can help students access knowledge more easily, personalize their learning paths, and answer questions quickly. However, the downside is that over-reliance on AI can make students lazy in thinking, analyzing, and solving problems.
“We are witnessing a generation of students who can easily find answers to any problem with just a few clicks, and if left unchecked, they cannot practice critical and creative thinking skills,” Ms. Hang shared.

A recent survey shows that the rate of students using AI tools to solve homework is increasing. Many students consider this as a “savior” when they encounter difficulties, instead of researching and researching on their own. This leads to a situation of coping, rote learning and reduces real interest in learning.
Faced with that reality, in addition to using AI, teachers in Lao Cai are also proactively implementing many measures to limit students' abuse of AI. Instead of banning, teachers are finding ways to "live with" AI, turning it into an effective learning support tool. Teacher Hang also determined that it is necessary to control students' use of AI to solve exercises, not thinking and researching for themselves but immediately using AI results.
Ms. Hang shared: To avoid students being lazy in thinking, I guide students to ask questions (promt) effectively, according to the principle of "asking and digging deep", after having results, they must cross-check 3 sources (official documents, textbooks - reputable websites of the Ministry of Education and Training - ask the teacher). Along with that, I help students have the skills to turn AI into a "learning assistant", only using it to systematize knowledge, create a framework, create outlines, mind maps. From there, students fill in formula information, detailed knowledge into that framework; guide students to use AI to expand knowledge like from a topic, thanks to AI to create many similar topics and provide many different approaches and solutions.

At Nguyen Du Secondary School (Yen Bai Ward), teacher Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has applied the "open-ended" method. Instead of dry problems with only one correct answer, Ms. Thao encourages students to solve practical problems with many different approaches and solutions. She encourages students to use AI to check results, search for different solutions or explore real-life applications of mathematics.
“I always remind students that AI is just a tool. What is important is that they clearly understand the nature of the problem and know how to use the tool intelligently and creatively,” Ms. Thao emphasized.

Schools in the province have been implementing measures to limit students' abuse of AI, focusing on changing teaching methods. In addition to focusing on one-way knowledge transfer, teachers also encourage students to participate in group discussion activities, solve real-life problems and conduct independent research.
Along with that is the innovation of testing and assessment forms, focusing on students' ability to apply knowledge, critical thinking and creativity; enhancing education to help students be equipped with knowledge about AI, clearly understand the advantages and limitations of this technology, thereby using AI consciously and responsibly.
In addition, the school and family work together to monitor, remind and guide students in using AI. “We want students to use it as a support tool, not as a replacement for thinking. The important thing is to help them understand the value of self-study, self-research and develop independent thinking skills,” emphasized teacher Nguyen Thi Thu - Principal of Nguyen Hue High School (Yen Bai ward).

With effective solutions, schools have been helping students use AI for the right purposes, enhancing educational effectiveness, helping students not only be good at knowledge but also have the ability to think independently, creatively and adapt to all changes of the times.
