Officers and soldiers of the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vi Tan, along with the militia and self-defense forces of Xa Phien commune, support people to overcome damage after the storm.

The natural disaster caused heavy damage to Mr. Ho Van Kham's house in Hamlet 4, Xa Phien Commune. The wooden house collapsed completely, and the corrugated iron was lying in disarray. "Seeing the heavy rain and strong wind, the whole family only had time to run outside, and in a moment the house collapsed completely. I have never seen such strong winds," Mr. Kham emotionally recounted.

That same morning, officers and soldiers of the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vi Tan and local militia quickly arrived, helped clean up and set up tents to help Mr. Kham's family stay temporarily.

Mr. Danh Khum's house in Hamlet 4, Xa Phien Commune was also severely damaged by the storm. The roof was completely blown off, the ceiling collapsed, making daily life difficult for the whole family. Upon receiving the news, the army and militia, along with the commune's departments, branches and organizations, quickly helped Mr. Khum's family re-roof the house and install the ceiling, completing the work within the day.

Mr. Khum shared: “My family is quite lonely, if it weren’t for the help of the soldiers, the house repairs probably wouldn’t have been completed in 3-4 days. Not only did they help re-roof the house, a few days later, the soldiers also came to visit and encourage my family to overcome the difficulties soon.”

Mr. Kham and Mr. Khum's families were 2 of 30 households affected by the storm at the end of July. Immediately after the incident, the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vi Tan mobilized more than 30 people to coordinate with 130 local officers and soldiers to quickly arrive at the scene, directly supporting each household to overcome the consequences. At the same time, many practical gifts were presented, contributing to helping the families stabilize their lives soon.

According to the forecast of the functional sector, in the last months of the year, our country in general, and the Mekong Delta in particular, will be affected by many storms and whirlwinds that will affect the daily life, production and livelihood of the people. Before this forecast, Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Tung Phuong, Commander of the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vi Tan, said that in the coming time, the unit will continue to promote its core and pioneering role in preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. The unit will proactively arrange forces, means and facilities according to the "4 on-site" motto, ready to respond promptly to all situations; strengthen training, rescue drills, improve command and coordination capacity between forces. Step up propaganda and guidance on disaster prevention skills for people, especially in remote areas; closely coordinate with local authorities to review and evacuate people from dangerous areas and restore production and stabilize life after natural disasters.

“People need to regularly update weather forecast information from authorities to respond promptly. Reinforce houses, trim surrounding trees, check drainage systems to limit damage when there is a heavy rain. Absolutely do not enter dangerous areas when there is a natural disaster warning; follow evacuation instructions when requested by local authorities” - Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Tung Phuong advised.

The practical, timely and responsible actions of the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vi Tan in supporting people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters have further enhanced the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", contributing to building and consolidating the "people's hearts and minds" more firmly.
