NDO - On December 29th, the 7th meeting between the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam and the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development took place in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss the implementation of projects for the construction, renovation, and restoration of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense. Leaders from agencies under the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Military Region 7 attended the meeting.
The Cambodian delegation was led by Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the National Council of the Cambodian Front for National Unity and Development, and Chairman of the Committee for the Restoration and Renovation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument.

At the seminar, both sides reviewed the results of coordinated efforts in directing and implementing projects over the past period; and agreed on the direction and content of future cooperation.
Accordingly, both sides highly appreciated the results achieved in accordance with the Minutes of the Sixth Session, signed on December 27, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City; and the implementation of projects ensured progress and good results.

At the same time, it was affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the National Council of the Cambodian Front for National Solidarity and Development closely cooperate in surveying and assessing the current state of management and protection of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia; researching, designing, preparing cost estimates, and submitting appraisal reports in accordance with regulations; regularly exchanging and agreeing on measures to effectively implement the projects; and actively inspecting and urging agencies, units, and localities to implement the construction, repair, and restoration of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development, stated that from 2015 to the present, Vietnam has provided funding to Cambodia for 24 projects to build, renovate, and beautify the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument and to repair and upgrade the headquarters of the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development.
Thanks to the efforts of both sides, all projects have been completed, including two new construction projects in Tboung Khmum and Svay Rieng provinces, and funding for road construction leading to the Friendship Monument in Siem Reap province.
Currently, Vietnam continues to provide funding for the restoration and renovation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pursat , Mondulkiri, and Prey Veng provinces.

General Vo Minh Luong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Minister of National Defense, sincerely thanked the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development, as well as the localities and people of Cambodia, for creating all favorable conditions for the effective construction, renovation, and restoration of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
In the coming period, both sides will continue to effectively implement the contents signed at the bilateral meetings; closely coordinate and direct the acceleration of the project to build, renovate, and restore the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia, ensuring progress, quality, and efficiency.
Continue reviewing the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments already built in Cambodia that need restoration and renovation, and report to the competent authorities of each country for consideration and decision, in accordance with the content agreed upon at the meetings between the two sides.
Both sides reaffirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia are significant historical and cultural landmarks representing the relationship between the two countries; therefore, they need to be strictly managed and protected. They proposed that the two governments sign a Memorandum of Agreement on the protection of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
