Good differentiation of exam questions, creating favorable conditions for university admission

On the afternoon of June 27, after finishing the Foreign Language exam according to the 2006 General Education Program, the 2025 High School Graduation Exam in Nghe An was also completed. According to a quick report, during the 2 days of the exam, no candidates or invigilators violated the exam regulations, and no unusual incidents occurred. The exam took place safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations.

Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said that this result was achieved thanks to the early preparation and drastic intervention of the Ministry of Education and Training to direct the early innovation of teaching and learning organization and strengthen the review, practice, and mock exams for students. Therefore, after the end of the first cycle and through the implementation of this year's Graduation Exam, it can be affirmed that the exam was successfully organized. In which, the exam questions were scientifically constructed, suitable for the program and the students' strengths and talents. Regarding the organization, with thorough and elaborate preparation for all students of the localities, the exam was organized seriously, safely, and in accordance with regulations.

Regarding the opinions of many candidates about this year's highly differentiated exam, Mr. Thai Van Thanh said, "It is not surprising that the 2025 exam is more difficult than 2024 and previous years." The exam has a very clear differentiation and in fact, in the process of learning and teaching according to the new program, teachers have prepared students' mentality in advance. The reason is that this is the first exam based on competency assessment, in addition to the 2 compulsory subjects, students choose the remaining 2 subjects according to their aptitude and strengths to promote autonomy, creating a confident and comfortable mentality for them.

According to the leader of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, it is normal for candidates to compare the exam questions between the 2025 and 2024 exams. However, the nature of the exam is different for the purpose of creating exam questions to assess students' abilities. In addition, if the exam questions are difficult, they will take place on a common level, which will accurately differentiate students between excellent, good, and average.

In addition, the exam differentiates excellent, good and fair students clearly, creating favorable conditions for universities to consider admission: "I believe that after this exam, students with high scores will be proud of their academic results and they will have the opportunity to pass the entrance exams to the top schools in the country. That will also meet the demand for high-quality human resources and meet the requirements of the country when entering the New Era" - Mr. Thai Van Thanh added.

Review and adjust teaching and learning towards capacity development

According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh, the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program has now completed a 5-year cycle. The Ministry of Education and Training will direct and review the program to suit the requirements of national development in the new era, suit the characteristics of Vietnamese students' ages and take into account regional factors.

Localities will also directeducational innovation towards enhancing problem-solving teaching, project-based teaching and focusing on building learning projects to develop students' abilities and strengths. Thereby, helping students experience knowledge and apply knowledge to solve practical problems.

The education sector will also strengthen the direction of units and schools to focus on teaching in line with the orientation of developing students' capacity. On the part of schools, it is necessary to continue to change teaching methods, gradually eliminating the way of teaching presentations and imparting knowledge in a one-way manner and shifting to active, proactive and creative teaching. Encourage students to discover and seek new knowledge. That is also one of the creative entrepreneurial spirit in schools.

What many administrators, teachers and parents are interested in and want is that along with innovation in teaching, there must also be changes in testing and assessment based on competency. The head of the Nghe An education sector said that this is a difficult issue and it takes time to have a plan and implementation process. Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training trained local key teachers on designing competency tests. When having this skill, teachers will understand how to assess competency.

In the coming time, key subject cadres of localities need to continue to accumulate and practice to perfect their test design and teaching design skills in the direction of promoting students' abilities. Organizing teaching and learning helps students meet the requirements of the new general education program. At that time, students participating in exams will become normal, because it is in line with their qualities, abilities and spirit of comprehensive development.

Immediately after completing the 2025 high school graduation exam, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training also prepared facilities, selected and directed the exam sites to ensure security, safety, and convenience for the exam marking work. The Department also mobilized teachers with good capacity, good moral qualities, and objectivity to mark the exams to ensure accuracy and fairness for students. Under the direction of the Ministry, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training established the Exam Marking Council of the 2018 General Education Program and the 2006 General Education Program in a systematic and regulated manner.
