These days, people in Thuong Flower Village (Tien Du commune, Phu Ninh district) are busily tending to their chrysanthemum crops. Flower growers are present day and night in their fields, working tirelessly to water, fertilize, and care for their thriving flower beds, preparing for a beautiful and high-quality flower season to serve the market for the 2025 Lunar New Year.
Visiting the chrysanthemum garden of Mr. Dang Xuan Huy's family in Zone 6, Tien Du commune, who has 23 years of experience growing flowers in Thuong village, with over 1 hectare of land dedicated to flower cultivation, Mr. Huy's family expects to supply more than 10,000 chrysanthemum flowers to the market for the Lunar New Year 2025.
People in Thuong Village, a traditional flower-growing village, are busily tending to their flowers.
Mr. Huy shared: “Every year, as scheduled, at the beginning of September in the lunar calendar, people in the village start preparing the land and lighting lamps to care for the flowers, getting ready for Tet. This year's flower season started with difficulties due to the dry weather and little rain, but at this point, the weather is stable, the plants are growing well and have buds. Last year, 5 days before Tet, I sold the chrysanthemums to traders who bought them directly from the garden at 4,000 VND per flower, hoping that this year will maintain the same price.”
In the bustling atmosphere of the year-end, the family of Mr. Nguyen Anh Tai - Head of the flower-growing village of Thuong - is also busy with the work of caring for the flowers. Mr. Tai said: “Currently, the flower care process is in the stage of spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases. To ensure the quality of the flowers, we have to spray pesticides to prevent pests and diseases, and fertilize regularly every 20 days. Standard chrysanthemums must have green leaves, straight stems, long petals, thick stems, and a height of 80-110cm.”
The chrysanthemum plants that meet the standards should have green leaves, straight branches, thick stems, and a height of 80-110cm.
According to Mr. Tai, the wholesale price of chrysanthemums in Thuong village usually ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 VND per flower, depending on quality and time of year. If the flowering season is favorable, people can earn a profit of up to 60% of their investment costs. This is a fairly stable income during Tet (Lunar New Year), helping flower growers cover living expenses and invest in subsequent seasons.
Tien Du commune has nearly 30 households engaged in flower cultivation. It is projected that the Thuong village flower-growing area will supply approximately 200,000 chrysanthemum flowers to the market for Tet 2025. Although the quantity of flowers is nearly half that of previous years, partly due to climate change, the people still hope that the weather from now until Tet will be favorable and that the flowers will sell at a high price.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Chat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Du commune, said: "The flower-growing village of Thuong is one of the traditional craft villages of Tien Du commune, having been established and developed for over 20 years. In 2001, only a few households experimented with growing chrysanthemums to sell at the market. Seeing the high economic value of flower cultivation, in 2004, many households in the commune joined in flower cultivation. Despite facing many difficulties, the people here still persevere in the profession, because for them, flower cultivation is not only a livelihood but also a source of pride for the traditional craft village. On average, a flower crop supplied to the Tet market usually brings people an income of 40-50 million VND."

Mr. Nguyen Hong Chat also added that Tien Du commune has a plan to expand the flower cultivation area from 1.5 to 2 hectares in the coming years. At the same time, they will focus on converting flower varieties, planting more high-economic-value flowers, and providing workers with training in modern cultivation techniques. Investing in infrastructure and developing the craft village is also one of the important goals to improve flower quality and meet the increasing demands of the market.

Despite facing many weather challenges this year, the flower growers remain persistent in their profession. For them, each Tet flower season is not only an opportunity to earn a living and increase income, but also a chance to affirm the vitality and pride of Thuong Village's flower-growing tradition. In the bustling and enthusiastic atmosphere of hard work, the chrysanthemum fields have begun to bud, promising a bountiful harvest. The people here hope that the 2025 Tet flower season will bring good fortune, happiness, and prosperity to every family in the village.
