To celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024), the inauguration and handover ceremony of the renovated and restored Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School, a national historical site, jointly organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee, will take place on the morning of August 9, 2024, in Tan Thai commune, Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province. This is also the first activity in a series of events leading up to the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Journalists Association (April 21, 1950 - April 21, 2025).
Seventy-five years ago (April 4, 1949), amidst the mountains and forests of the Viet Bac Resistance Zone, the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism was established. This was the first journalism training institution of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press and also the only one during the resistance war against French colonialism.
On March 28, 2019, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 1182/QD-BVHTTDL classifying the Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School site as a National Monument in the area delineated as plot 32, map sheet 47, Tan Thai commune, Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province.

Based on that, on April 4, 2019, the Vietnam Journalists Association, in coordination with Thai Nguyen province, solemnly organized the Inauguration Ceremony of the Monument to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism.

In 2024, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism, the Vietnam Journalists Association, in coordination with the People's Committee and relevant agencies of Thai Nguyen province, implemented the restoration and preservation project of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism National Monument in Tan Thai commune, Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province. On January 18, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration and preservation of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism National Monument was held. To date, after 7 months of construction, with the very active cooperation of the leaders and departments of Thai Nguyen province, Dai Tu district, Tan Thai commune, and the support of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrovietnam), the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism National Monument project has basically completed its main components.

The Vietnam Journalists Association and Thai Nguyen province aspire to effectively exploit and promote the immense historical value of the site, adding another meaningful destination to the map of contemporary Vietnamese journalism, fulfilling the aspirations of generations of journalists nationwide, attracting domestic and international audiences, and making a positive contribution to the dissemination and education of history for the younger generation.
“We plan to coordinate with relevant authorities to include the Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School relic in the list of tourist attractions in the “Capital of the Thousand Winds” – the capital of the country during the resistance war against French colonialism (including Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Kan), with Thai Nguyen holding a particularly important position, the center of the “Capital of Resistance”. We will also promote awareness among local journalists' associations, branch associations, and journalist chapters nationwide with the hope that all journalists will understand the importance of this relic, and thus consider it a significant site for journalists, especially young journalists, to connect with their roots, learn about the glorious history of journalism, hear stories about their predecessors, and build for the future of the country's journalism.”

After restoration and renovation, the site is expected to be used to welcome visiting groups, journalists returning to their roots, and students and pupils to study and experience the history of journalism; it will also serve as a venue for conferences and seminars on journalism, short-term training programs, a place for issuing membership cards of the Vietnam Journalists Association, and the awarding of regional and local journalism prizes… In particular, the Vietnam Journalists Association hopes that when it becomes operational, the exhibitions about the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism and the Journalism of the Viet Bac War Zone here will not only contribute to preserving and introducing valuable journalistic documents and artifacts from the 1946-1954 period but also affirm the great achievements of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism in the national defense struggles and in the process of national reconstruction.
