The second qualifying round of the Porto 2024 World Cup billiards, held from June 30th to the early morning of July 1st, featured four Vietnamese players: Nguyen Dinh Luan, Nguyen Chi Long, Nguyen Hoan Tat, and Thon Viet Hoang Minh. Of these, Chi Long and Hoang Minh advanced from the second round to the third, where Dao Van Ly was waiting.
In the third qualifying round, which begins this afternoon, July 1st, Thón Viết Hoàng Minh is in Group J with Mikael Devogelaere (France) and Huub Wilkowski (Netherlands). Nguyễn Chí Long is in Group K with De Kruijf (Netherlands) and Atsushi Kiyota (Japan). Đào Văn Ly is in Group M with Marcos Morales (Spain) and De Bruijn (Netherlands).

All three Vietnamese players will take to the court at 6:30 PM (July 1st, Vietnam time). Hoang Minh will face Devogelaere, Chi Long will clash with De Kruijf, and Van Ly will compete against Morales. Depending on the results of the first round, the second round for the Vietnamese players will take place at either 9:30 PM or 12:30 AM (July 2nd, Vietnam time).

The third qualifying round of the Porto 2025 World Cup billiards features 48 players, divided equally into 16 groups (3 players per group), competing in a single round-robin format to determine points and rankings, with equal turns (draws are allowed). The top players in each group will advance to the fourth qualifying round.

Last night (June 30th), Tran Quyet Chien and other top Vietnamese 3-cushion carom players such as Tran Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh, and Chiem Hong Thai departed from Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) for Portugal. These four players received a special exemption to compete in the main draw (round of 32) of the Porto 2025 Billiards World Cup, and will begin their competition on the afternoon of July 3rd.

Interestingly, fate has once again placed Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh in the same group in the round of 32. Accordingly, the two top players in Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards are both in Group D. The remaining two players in Group D will be determined after the qualifying rounds conclude.
Chiêm Hồng Thái is in Group C with Eddy Merckx (Belgium, 14-time World Cup billiards champion) and Jose Miguel Soares (Portugal). Trần Thanh Lực is in Group E with Berkay Karakurt (Türkiye).
