According to Ynet , grapes are often considered to be high in sugar, so nutritional recommendations suggest limiting grape consumption and choosing other fruits instead.

However, a new study suggests that grapes not only deserve a place in a healthy diet, but could soon be recognised as a "superfood" thanks to their diverse benefits.

The study, published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, was conducted by Professor John Pezzuto, who studies resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant found in grape skin, and its effects on heart health, inflammation, and cancer prevention.

Researchers believe that the health benefits of grapes come from the unique combination of compounds such as antioxidants and polyphenols such as flavonoids, anthocyanidins, catechins, phenolic acids and resveratrol, rather than from any single component.

More than 60 studies have examined the effects of grapes on human health. The findings suggest that grapes have benefits for heart health, such as improved blood vessel dilation, blood flow, and cholesterol regulation.

Grapes also support brain function, metabolism, cognition and skin health, protecting against UV damage and reducing DNA damage in skin cells.

Additionally, grapes have a positive effect on intestinal health and can improve vision.

Israeli experts, however, urge caution. “The term superfood is largely a marketing concept,” said Shir Alfi-Seger, senior clinical nutritionist at Clalit Health Services in Dan-Petach Tikva.

"Grapes have excellent nutritional properties, but there is no agreed scientific definition of a 'superfood', so it is important not to attribute superior properties to a single food. Grapes are best included as part of a varied diet," the expert said.

She also warns that because of their high sugar content, people with diabetes or blood sugar problems should be careful when eating grapes. Most importantly, grapes can be a healthy part of a daily diet, but their benefits depend on variety and overall lifestyle, not on a single 'miracle' food.
