Representing the US semiconductor industry, SIA currently brings together a network of member companies that account for 99% of the industry's revenue. Of these, two-thirds are foreign semiconductor companies.

Mr. John Neffeur made two visits to Vietnam in January 2023 and October 2023. This time, SIA organized a delegation of leading semiconductor companies including Intel, Ampere, Marvell, Cirrus Logic, Infineon, and Skyworks.

Promoting cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

Welcoming businesses to visit and work in Vietnam, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the chairman and SIA for their many activities and initiatives supporting and connecting many SIA member businesses to seek business and cooperation opportunities in Vietnam.

Emphasizing the focus on three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure (especially transportation and digital infrastructure), and human resources, the Prime Minister stated that this will facilitate and meet the needs of investors, increasing competitiveness and helping investors feel secure in long-term, sustainable, and effective cooperation with Vietnam.

With a focus on developing science and technology, innovation, and the semiconductor industry, the Prime Minister affirmed that there will be policies to support investors with the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks".

Therefore, he suggested that SIA continue to call on American corporations to cooperate and invest more extensively and effectively in these areas.

From there, support Vietnamese businesses in participating in global supply chains, cooperate in infrastructure investment, and build training facilities and semiconductor research and development centers.

He also hoped that businesses with influence with the US government would continue to promote deeper, more substantive, and more effective relations with Vietnam; and that the US government would soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy and lift restrictions related to the export of high-tech products to Vietnam.

US semiconductor companies are interested in cooperation between the two countries.

SIA Chairman John Neuffer expressed his pleasure at witnessing Vietnam's strong development and the good relations between the two countries, affirming that Vietnam is an important and attractive destination for investors. He particularly praised Vietnam's initiatives in developing the semiconductor industry, such as the program to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers.

According to John Neuffer, Vietnam has made significant progress in this area, especially in diversifying and developing its supply chains. Particularly noteworthy are its advantages such as a world-class, hardworking workforce; the development of crucial infrastructure; and strong domestic partners like Viettel, which provide a solid foundation for cooperation.

Therefore, there are many new and significant opportunities for American businesses in Vietnam, said John Neuffer. He added that SIA and American businesses are very interested in the bilateral relationship and will continue to support Vietnam in developing its semiconductor industry and building a strong supply chain.

Accordingly, as a trusted partner with a bright future, John Neuffer stated that Vietnam is very important and increasingly important to the US semiconductor industry, in the strategy of SIA businesses. The SIA chairman said he will return to Vietnam many more times and continue to promote and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the businesses in the delegation all affirmed that they highly value the Vietnamese market, and provided updates on their operations and plans for expanding cooperation and investment in Vietnam in the future.

The US investment fund with $528 billion wants to expand its investments.

Later that same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. David Petraeus, one of the co-owners of KKR, a leading global investment fund with total assets of $528 billion, who was visiting and working in Vietnam. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that American investors would continue to increase new investments and expand investment in Vietnam.

Particularly in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, building an innovative startup ecosystem, digital transformation, and renewable energy; connecting Vietnam with KKR's corporations and partners worldwide to seek opportunities and expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, David Petraeus praised the factors that make Vietnam an "extremely attractive" place for investment, affirming that KKR Investment Fund will continue to expand its investments and strongly support cooperation with Vietnam.
