Many residential areas and roads near Cat Bi International Airport (Hai An District, Hai Phong City) experienced power outages on the evening of June 8th.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from yesterday afternoon, June 8 to early this morning, June 9, in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa, there was moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain.

Specifically, the amount of rainfall measured from 1 p.m. on June 8 to 3 a.m. on June 9 was generally from 30 - 80 mm, with some places over 100 mm such as: Minh Quang (Vinh Phuc) 195.3 mm, Dong Xuan (Phu Tho) 108.8 mm;, Dong Bac (Hoa Binh) 130.4 mm, Suoi Giang (Yen Bai) 114.8 mm, Muong Sai (Son La) 121.0 mm, Thiet Ke (Thanh Hoa) 112.2 mm...

Eleven hydroelectric reservoirs have run out of water and have had to stop generating electricity.

For people in the North who have endured the harsh hot weather for many days, these rains are like "golden rain" that cools the air while many residential areas still have power outages and rotating power cuts.

Announcing the power outage schedule on June 9 in Thai Nguyen, Thai Nguyen Electricity Company has updated 14 areas with power outages due to repairs, renovations, and maintenance of the power grid. In recent days, the extremely hot weather and high demand for electricity have caused local overloads and threatened to cause problems in some areas. To prevent problems with the power system, the power company will repair the power grid.

In particular, many areas experienced prolonged power outages, ranging from 2 PM to 8 PM and from 3 PM to 10 PM. However, Thai Nguyen Power Company stated that they will promptly rectify the situation and restore power as soon as possible, and requested the understanding of residents and electricity customers.

The power outage schedule in Hanoi on June 9 also recorded many residential areas continuing to lose power.

In Ha Dong District, the resettlement areas LK27, 28; a part of Nam Cuong urban area, areas L, M, in Duong Noi Ward had power outage from 7am to 3pm. In addition, alleys 2, 4, 18 Thanh Binh Street; a part of residential groups 7, 8 in Phu Lam Ward had power outage from 7am to 1pm.

In Son Tay town, there are 8 areas that have to "temporarily stop power supply" in rotation according to different time frames, concentrated in Vien Son and Ngo Quyen wards; notably, part of Hospital 105 also had power cut.

In Hai Phong on the evening of June 8, many areas around Cat Bi International Airport (Hai An District) also lost power in both residential areas and traffic lighting systems. According to Hai Phong Electricity Company, today there will be 16 areas without power in the districts of Thuy Nguyen, An Lao, Vinh Bao, Tien Lang, An Lao and the districts of Hai An, Hong Bang, Do Son...

The power supply to the northern provinces in the coming days is forecast to continue to be difficult. By June 8, many hydropower plants across the country had to stop generating electricity because the water level in the lakes had reached or was approaching the dead water level, making safe operation impossible. Among them, many hydropower reservoirs provide the majority of electricity output for the North.

Among the large hydroelectric plants in the North, only Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant still has water in its reservoir to generate electricity. However, if there is no heavy rain in the coming days to replenish the water supply, Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant will only be able to generate electricity until June 12-13.
