On the morning of December 2, An Giang Electricity Company announced that it had deployed many large-capacity generators to temporarily provide electricity to people in the northern area of Phu Quoc Island.

Mobilizing 20 generators

Because the power supply radius from the 110kV South Phu Quoc station to the North Island is too large (more than 50km), there are still 32 public stations in the areas of Ganh Dau, Bai Thom, Rach Tram... with low voltage at the end of the source, not ensuring the quality of electricity for people to use.

The company will adjust the transformer voltage to improve the voltage. In case the transformer voltage adjustment still does not ensure the voltage, a mobile generator will be arranged to alternately supply power to these stations.

Accordingly, the Southern Power Corporation mobilizes all mobile generators of the electricity industry in the Southern region with about 20 machines, generating capacity of about 2.5 MW. These generators will be ready to supply electricity alternately to the 32 public transformer stations mentioned above.

When the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable incident occurred on November 29, the company transferred part of the load from the 110kV Phu Quoc transformer station to receive electricity from the 110kV Nam Phu Quoc transformer station via the 22kV line to restore power supply to the maximum level for the people.

The unit prioritizes power supply for important loads such as administrative centers, hospitals, fire prevention and fighting, telecommunications centers, water supply, night markets, and areas serving the construction of Phu Quoc international airport expansion.

Generators in Phu Quoc are sold out.

Mr. Ta Nguyen Bao - a generator seller in Phu Quoc - said that before, his store only sold 3-5 generators/month. Due to the incident of the 110kV underground cable Ha Tien - Phu Quoc, many people came to his store to buy generators.

In just the past 3 days (from November 29 to December 1), he has sold more than 60 machines (prices range from 4-15 million VND/machine).

"There are currently many people asking to buy, so I predict the demand for generators will increase," said Mr. Bao.

"I just bought the machine to keep at home, mainly to use during power outages, less trouble" - Mr. Phu Van Hoang, a resident of Phu Quoc special economic zone, shared.

"The power outage was so sudden that I was not prepared. I went around the market in Phu Quoc to buy a generator but it was out. I will try to find a place to rent a generator" - Ms. Pham Thuy, a resident of the special zone, said.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , the widespread power outage in Phu Quoc on November 29 was initially determined by An Giang Electricity Company to be caused by Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Company Limited constructing a platform about 300m from the coast of Ha Tien, affecting the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable.
