(CLO) On Monday, the US announced the addition of six Chinese companies to its export sanctions list, accusing them of supporting Iran's weapons programs.
Companies are placed on a trade sanctions list, also known as the Entity List, when Washington assesses them as a threat to U.S. national security or foreign policy. Once on this list, companies cannot receive U.S. goods and technology without a special license, which is almost certain to be denied.

Thea D. Rozman Kendler, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Management, said: "We will continue to cut off entities that seek to circumvent our controls and act contrary to U.S. national security."
The U.S. Commerce Department has added Beijing Moreget Creative Technology to the list of companies that purchased U.S.-sourced items related to aviation simulation technology, supporting China's military modernization efforts.
A Hong Kong-based company, Small Leopard Electronics, along with its closely related company Shenzhen Dragonfly Supply Chain, was also added to the list because Small Leopard repeatedly engaged in "delays and evasions" in providing information to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Three other companies, Detail Technology, L-Tong Electronic Technology, and Shenzhen Jichuang Weiye Technology, are accused of purchasing or attempting to purchase items of US origin for Iran's weapons programs.
China has repeatedly called on the U.S. to stop targeting its companies, calling it a "discriminatory and unfair measure."
A total of 26 entities were added to the list on Monday, including one from Egypt, 16 from Pakistan, and three from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Two companies have been removed from the list, including China's Hefei Bitland Information Technology Company, which has since been dissolved according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Canada's Sandvine, a provider of networking equipment, has also been removed.
