Visiting the sugarcane fields in Nghia Dong commune, Tan Ky district at this time, one can witness the bustling atmosphere of the sugarcane harvest. Mr. Le Van Bay from Hamlet 8, Nghia Dong commune, shared: "My family is harvesting 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of sugarcane. Thanks to proper technical care, this year's sugarcane yield is high, reaching over 80 tons/ha. Currently, the company is buying it at 1.1 million VND/ton for grade 1 sugarcane."

The sale of sugarcane is also facilitated as farmers have signed product purchase agreements with Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company. The factory's trucks drive right into the fields to transport sugarcane for the farmers. The farmers hope that sugarcane prices will remain stable to ensure their livelihoods.

Mr. Phan Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia Dong commune, said: Sugarcane is the main crop of the commune, with over 160 hectares of sugarcane. This year, the yield is outstanding, reaching over 70 tons/ha. However, many households, thanks to good care, have achieved over 100 tons/ha (equivalent to 5 tons/sao). Currently, the entire commune has harvested over 30% of the area.
Thanks to the upgraded and renovated rural road system, transport vehicles can easily access and transport sugarcane directly to the fields for farmers. For several years now, sugarcane cultivation has yielded quite good economic results, so in the 2024 sugarcane planting season, Nghia Dong commune will convert 50 hectares of less efficient corn crops to sugarcane cultivation, aiming to increase farmers' income.

According to a representative from the Tan Ky District Department of Agriculture : Tan Ky district currently has nearly 5,000 hectares of sugarcane, with farmers having harvested over 100 hectares, yielding 68 tons/ha (an increase of 2.5 tons/ha compared to 2022). Many households achieved yields exceeding 100 tons/ha. The reason for this bumper harvest is the increasing application of advanced techniques in sugarcane cultivation, especially the introduction of new varieties such as AK2, AK3, and LK 9211…

According to information from Song Con Sugar Company, this year's crushing season began with the purchase of raw sugarcane and production starting on December 5, 2023. Due to favorable sugar prices, the company is purchasing sugarcane from farmers at 1.1 million VND per ton for grade 1 sugarcane at the field (50,000 VND per ton higher than last year), and is also providing a loading allowance of 50,000 VND per ton.
