According to a source familiar with the matter cited by RBK on November 23, the commander of the Southern Group of Forces, General Gennady Anashkin, has been dismissed.
RBK 's sources at the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed this personnel decision and stated that it was a planned rotation.

“ Anashkin, an honorary commander with extensive combat experience, fought from the very first days of the special military operation. Prior to that, he commanded battalions and combined forces in various operations, including peacekeeping ,” the source noted.
Earlier, war correspondent Yuuri Kotenok and the World News channels with Yury Podolyaka and Rybar had reported on the general's resignation.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not officially announced either the appointment of Anashkin as commander of the Southern Army Group or his dismissal.
Anashkin's appointment as acting commander of the Southern Military District became known in May from articles posted on the Kremlin website listing those who attended a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
