Prevent dirty food from entering schools

QTO - At the parent-teacher meeting at the beginning of the new school year, one of the issues that my child's parents were most concerned about was food safety for school meals. Although this issue is not new, the recent incident of food poisoning among many students at a school in the province has made many parents worried.

- I have observed that since the beginning of the year, there have been many cases of students being hospitalized due to food poisoning nationwide, even though the alarm bell about food safety in the school environment has been sounded for a long time. The worries of parents, teachers and the whole society have therefore become more urgent than ever.

-This situation shows that, despite many efforts, the work of ensuring food safety and hygiene in schools still has shortcomings. The causes of food poisoning are very diverse, from the use of ingredients of unknown origin, poor quality, unsanitary processing and preservation processes, to meals prepared at outside facilities but transported improperly.

- My child’s school has never had any food poisoning incidents thanks to strict procedures from selecting to preparing food in the school lunches. However, parents cannot help but worry when dirty food not only comes from the group meals but also “surrounds” children from many sides.

- That's right, snacks and snacks of unknown origin are sold everywhere around school gates, posing a potential risk to students' health. At their age, students are not aware of the dangers of eating and drinking foods and beverages of poor quality.

- Food poisoning can lead to long-term health consequences, affecting the physical and mental development of children. Therefore, ensuring food safety requires the cooperation of all parties: schools, parents and the students themselves.

- Yes, the school needs to work with reputable suppliers, with business licenses, food safety certificates and clear origins. Carefully check the ingredients used to prepare food for students.

Most importantly, each dish prepared must be sampled according to health regulations so that in case of an incident, the origin and cause can be traced. At the same time, parents must coordinate with the school to regularly educate their children about the harmful effects of unhealthy eating.

- Only with close and decisive coordination from many sides can we protect the comprehensive health of future generations, bring safe, nutritious meals and happy, complete learning hours to them.
