Professor Sir Richard Henry Friend, Professor of Physics at Cambridge University (UK), Chairman of the VinFuture Prize Council, and Dr. Jayshree Seth - Scientist of 3M Corporation (USA), member of the VinFuture Prize Preliminary Council - recently shared with students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology at the scientific conference "Innovation and Organic Semiconductors"

Professor Sir Richard Henry Friend shares with students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology
The workshop was held within the framework of VinFuture Science and Technology Week, taking place from December 2 to 6, 2025 in Hanoi with the theme "Growing together - Prospering together".
Associate Professor Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, affirmed the significance of the event for the scientific community and innovation ecosystem of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in particular and Vietnam in general.

Associate Professor Huynh Dang Chinh, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, expressed hope that the event will inspire new ambitions for students.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology hopes that through the event, it will inspire new ambitions for students and open up cooperation opportunities for Polytechnic scientists with domestic and foreign partners.
Professor Sir Richard Friend is one of the most influential scholars in the field of organic electronics and organic semiconductors, and a prolific innovator with over 140 patents and over 1,100 scientific publications, with over 230,000 citations.
He brought to the conference a presentation on the topic "Organic Semiconductors - From OLED Displays to New Applications", taking listeners on a scientific journey around the development of OLED - a display technology that has been changing the way people interact with electronic devices.
From basic features such as: Operating principles and development process of OLED, properties of related semiconductors and some light-emitting diodes,... Professor Sir Richard Friend also provided in-depth insights into the efficient operation of field-effect transistors and LEDs (light-emitting diodes) based on organic polymers - one of the pioneering studies he and his colleagues conducted since the 1990s.

Many students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology listen to the sharing of the world's leading speakers
The profound sharing of Professor Sir Richard Friend helps listeners feel more clearly the meaning of the scientific journey originating from the perseverance of discovery and the desire to bring useful technologies to human life.
With his outstanding contributions to science, Professor Sir Richard Friend was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 2002 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of London (FRS) in 1993.
He also owns many prestigious medals and awards such as: Faraday Medal of IEE in 2003; Medal and Prize of the Katharine Burr Blodgett Institute of Physics with Dr. David Ffye in 2009; Harvey Prize of Technion in Israel in 2011; Millennium Technology Award - the prestigious Millennium Prize for the development of plastic electronics in 2010.
He was knighted by the British Royal Family in recognition of his "outstanding services to Physics".

Dr. Jayshree Seth believes that scientists need to help the public see that science is present in every aspect of life.
Dr. Jayshree Seth, a leading expert and the first chief scientist of 3M Corporation (USA), opened another slice of innovation through his talk "The Pursuit of Innovation: Science, Society & Sentimentality".
Based on the results of the 3M State of Science Index survey, Dr. Jayshree Seth shares the interesting fact that although the vast majority of people believe that science brings hope, there are still many people who are skeptical or think that science is irrelevant to life.

According to Dr. Jayshree Seth, this is a reminder that scientists need to do better at connecting, telling stories, and helping the public see science present in every aspect of life.
Dr. Jayshree Seth’s career is impressive with 80 published patents and a series of prestigious awards around the world, such as the Most Prestigious Achievement Award from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the first person to win the Gold Award in the category of Female Thought Leader of the Year at the 18th Stevie Awards for Women in Business. She was also honored in the Thinkers50 Radar list to honor those who have the potential to shape the thinking of the management industry in the future.
