During their state visit to Vietnam, on the afternoon of April 2nd, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Kingdom of Belgium held a working meeting with the leaders of Hai Phong City, had lunch with representatives from various departments and major businesses before traveling to Cat Ba Island for sightseeing by cable car.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, received King Philippe and Queen of Belgium during their visit and working trip to Hai Phong.
After more than an hour of touring Cat Ba Island, King Philippe and Queen and their entourage boarded a boat to visit Lan Ha Bay.
Lan Ha Bay is located east of Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong City, adjacent to Ha Long Bay. The bay covers over 7,000 hectares and includes approximately 400 islands of varying sizes. It is a tranquil sea area with small fishing villages.
Unlike Ha Long Bay, all the islands in Lan Ha Bay are covered with lush greenery or vegetation. In recent years, the bay has become a popular and attractive tourist and resort destination for both domestic and international visitors. Lan Ha Bay was recognized by the International Bays Club Association as one of the most beautiful bays in the world in May 2020.
The King and Queen of Belgium experience the cable car line with the world's tallest cable car tower in Cat Ba.
Throughout their experience, the King and Queen expressed their delight at experiencing a modern and environmentally friendly infrastructure system, and were impressed by the tourism development potential of the area – a land possessing pristine, unique beauty and high accessibility to international tourists.
