Having drawn their first match against U17 Kyrgyzstan, U17 Vietnam must win against U17 Myanmar in the second match if they want to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the 2025 U17 Asian Championship. U17 Vietnam currently has only 1 point, behind U17 Yemen - who just beat U17 Myanmar 6-1.
Match preview: Vietnam U17 vs Myanmar U17
Vietnam U17 had a difficult start in the U17 Asian Championship qualifiers. Despite creating numerous opportunities, coach Cristiano Roland's players failed to score against Kyrgyzstan U17, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Previously, Vietnam U17's direct rival, Yemen U17, had won convincingly. This result was somewhat unfavorable, and Vietnam U17 was forced to win against Myanmar U17 in the second match.
Vietnam U17 had a poor start in the first match.
This is a realistic goal for the Vietnam U17 team. This squad – under the guidance of coach Tran Minh Chien – recently defeated Myanmar U16 5-1 at the Southeast Asian U16 Championship. All four players who scored for Vietnam U16 in that match are still participating in this qualifying round (Bui Duy Dang, Nguyen Viet Long, Nguyen Thai Hoa, and Nguyen Thai Hieu).
The Vietnam U17 team did not win their first match. However, the home team's performance offered much hope. Under the guidance of coach Cristiano Roland, the Vietnam U17 team displayed a vibrant and sharp attacking style. The young players need to improve their ability to capitalize on opportunities, something none of the Vietnam U17 players managed to do against Kyrgyzstan U17.
The Myanmar U17 team qualified for the finals in 2000, 2002, and 2006, but has not advanced beyond the qualifying rounds since 2010. The last time fans saw the Myanmar U17 team at the Asian Championship finals was 18 years ago. If the Myanmar U17 team loses to Vietnam U17 in their second match, they will essentially have no chance of qualifying for the finals.
Force situation
The U17 Vietnam players are all healthy after the draw against U17 Kyrgyzstan. Key players like Gia Bao and Viet Anh will retain their starting positions.
Myanmar U17 faces a disadvantage as their key central defender, Myat Thu, is suspended. In their opening match, Myat Thu committed a dangerous foul on a Yemen U17 player and received a direct red card. He will miss the match against Vietnam U17 and will return for the match against Kyrgyzstan U17.
Predicted starting lineup for Vietnam U17: Xuan Tin, Hong Quang, Tan Dung, Viet Anh, Hong Phong, Viet Long, Hoang Khanh, Nguyen Luc, Duc Huy, Van Khanh, Gia Bao.
Expected U17 Myanmar lineup: Htet Kyaw, Ha Aung, Khant Kyaw, Nyi Nyi, Thiha, Zin Ko, Zar Ni, Zom Shang, Kun Mg Lone, Bo Kyaw, Nyi Thant.
Predict the score
Vietnam U17 4-0 Myanmar U17.
