Vietnam Railways Corporation has received a report about the incident that just occurred in the Dai Loc area of Quang Ngai province on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line.
Accordingly, as the train was preparing to pass the level crossing at Km924+430 (in Son Tinh commune, Quang Ngai province), two crossing guards, Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Son Oanh, had completely closed the barrier and were waiting for the train to pass when suddenly a man riding a motorbike crossed the tracks, crashing head-on into the left-hand barrier, sending both the man and the motorbike flying onto the railway tracks.
Despite knowing the train was approaching very close and that it could be life-threatening, Nguyen Son Oanh disregarded the danger and promptly rushed in to pull the man off the railway tracks, saving him in just a few short seconds before the train struck.
According to the locomotive's dashcam footage, the time from when the motorcyclist collided with the barrier and was thrown onto the road until the train passed was only about 3-4 seconds. The man was fortunately rescued by Mr. Oanh and immediately taken to the hospital by the SE6 train crew. The motorcycle was dragged along the railway tracks until kilometer marker 924+280, where the train stopped.
The accident caused the SE6 train to stop for nearly 30 minutes to resolve the situation, and the motorcyclist's vehicle was severely damaged. Mr. Oanh's exceptionally brave act was promptly commended by the Vietnam Railways Corporation, and a request for a higher commendation will be submitted according to regulations.
