DNVN - Speaking to the press on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the National Innovation Center (NIC), Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that the NIC needs to quickly form technology industries, including smart manufacturing, smart cities, digital media, cyber security, environment, healthcare, semiconductors, hydrogen, etc.
According to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, NIC is the core of the ecosystem, with the aim of combining the State, enterprises, institutes, schools, research centers, financial institutions, and incubation support units. Thereby, supporting research on new technologies, startups, supporting enterprises; leading, building, developing the ecosystem, leading innovation (I) in Vietnam.
“Over the years, Vietnam's innovation has always been highly appreciated and ranked well by the international community. It has never received the attention and support of the Government , ministries, and sectors and developed as well as it does today,” Mr. Dung affirmed.
According to Mr. Dung, hundreds of large and small businesses have benefited from NIC, especially in supporting digital transformation of businesses. Among the policies supported by NIC, the policy for startups is the most obvious.
Startups are consulted and supported to connect with resources, funds, and businesses to see what businesses and localities need. From there, they can connect and support localities and businesses in solving the problems they face.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that hundreds of large and small enterprises have benefited from NIC.
To promote the development of innovation activities in general and of NIC in particular, the Minister of Planning and Investment emphasized the need to form a complete, synchronous, and unified policy mechanism so that the center can operate best according to international standards.
Facilities must be complete for research centers, laboratories, and housing for experts at NIC. Currently, NIC Hoa Lac is very lacking. Without facilities, it will be difficult to retain domestic and foreign experts.
“It is necessary to quickly form technology industries at NIC. These include smart manufacturing, smart cities, digital communications, cyber security, environment, healthcare , semiconductors, hydrogen, etc. Currently, the field that NIC is promoting the most is semiconductors, opening research and training centers,” said Mr. Dung.
In the near future, NIC will be assigned an important task of managing the training program to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry. This is a very ambitious and strategic goal, which is to train at least 50,000 semiconductor engineers to supply the market from now until 2050. Vietnam has a very strong human resource, but must fully exploit it to train skilled human resources in the future.
