Vietnam and Japan will jointly organize a tourism seminar to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

JTTRI is an agency under the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), established in 1968. JTTRI's main mission is to conduct research reports on transportation and tourism, collaborate and exchange research with domestic and international research institutions, and organize conferences and seminars. JTTRI is headquartered in Tokyo, with branches in the United States (JITTI) established in 1993 and Bangkok (JTTRI-AIRO) in 2021.

Currently, JTTRI is collaborating with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNTTA) to consider organizing a workshop in 2023. Mr. Tetsuya Okuda hopes that VNTTA will support and encourage the workshop to be successfully organized, laying the groundwork for establishing a long-term cooperative relationship between the two sides.

Regarding the conference plan, Deputy Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, Do Thi Thanh Hoa, said that the chosen topic will be "Tourism Overcrowding in Major Tourist Centers and the Development of Satellite Tourism." The conference is expected to be held in September in Hanoi in both in-person and online formats, with the participation of 150 guests, including leaders and experts in the tourism industry from both countries.

The workshop will focus on the current situation of tourism overcrowding in some major tourist centers and propose initiatives and policy solutions to develop and control overcrowding, and promote the development of tourist destinations. At the same time, the two institutes have agreed to propose the signing of a memorandum of cooperation on tourism between the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and JTTRI.

Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Nguyen Trung Khanh, presents a commemorative gift to Mr. Tetsuya Okuda, Executive Director of International Relations at JTTRI.

Welcoming the Director of International Relations of JTTRI to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism for the first time, Director General Nguyen Trung Khanh stated that 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. Over the past period, the two countries have organized many cooperative activities and exchanges in various fields to promote diplomatic relations to a new level.

Following the reopening of tourism activities in Vietnam and Japan, the exchange of tourists between the two countries has seen a significant improvement. In the first four months of 2023, both Vietnam and Japan exchanged nearly 170,000 tourists. Director General Nguyen Trung Khanh hopes that tourist exchanges between the two countries will increase even further, especially given the numerous activities this year commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
