Analysis by Booking.com, one of the leading companies in the digital travel sector, shows that Generation Z is using technology at every step of their travel journey, from using AI to plan trips in advance, searching for tech-enabled amenities and services at accommodations, to using technology to preserve memories after the trip ends.
Young people love personalized, modern, and culturally diverse travel experiences.
51% of Vietnamese Gen Z travelers surveyed said they feel very comfortable relying on technology to create unforgettable travel experiences. 50% shared that they trust artificial intelligence (AI) in suggesting less crowded and lesser-known travel destinations. 67% would use AI-powered travel planning technology to schedule their trips.
Smart spending
Although they consider travel an integral part of their lives, Gen Z is still very concerned about spending wisely. They often travel during the off-season to save money and choose unique, one-of-a-kind experiences for their trips.
Gen Z travelers tend to opt for short domestic trips.
In 2024, 62% of Vietnamese Gen Z travelers surveyed shared that they tend to choose short domestic trips lasting from 1 to 4 nights. Considering financial factors, 62% chose to travel during the off-season to save costs. 63% "hunted" for discount codes from loyalty programs to optimize costs as much as possible.
When considering their travel budget for 2024, 69% want to choose destinations with unique travel experiences such as skydiving or hot air ballooning.
Balancing solo travel and family trips.
For Vietnam's Gen Z, close relationships play a crucial role in their choice of destinations and how they experience each trip. This generation wants to travel to strengthen personal relationships. Social media and digital connections are important in helping them make travel decisions. A report by Booking.com shows that 64% of Gen Z respondents in Vietnam said they tend to travel with family members, 58% with their parents, and 44% with their spouse. 71% are inspired to travel by information shared by friends or relatives on social media.
Young travelers strike a balance between solo travel and family trips.
Gen Z in Vietnam isn't afraid to travel alone. This is evidenced by the fact that 52% of respondents said they had traveled solo in the past six months, and 72% are planning solo trips within the next 12 months.
Choose accommodation that is familiar and offers many amenities.
Gen Z in Vietnam tends to repeat habits, with 80% admitting they have returned to a place they previously stayed at and enjoyed it. This generation wants a simple, quick experience and wants to avoid many obstacles when booking multiple services at once.

Relaxation and mental rejuvenation.
Gen Z travelers tend to be more concerned about their physical and mental health. According to a Booking survey, 61% of Gen Z travelers in Vietnam said the main motivation for their travels is relaxation, and 29% want to connect more deeply with themselves.
