In a small, dilapidated house in Lien Son hamlet, Kim Kien commune, an old mother, over 90 years old, is performing a weekly ceremony for her son every day. Mrs. Tran Thi Bay used to live with her youngest son, Tran Dinh Thuy, who had a congenital disability. An accident happened to him while fishing for a living, he was electrocuted by a high voltage current, and Thuy did not survive. The poor mother's offering meal was as simple as her own life.

Losing her child, Mrs. Bay not only lost her spiritual support, but now the hardships are weighing down on this woman's life even more. Every day, she still uses her last bit of strength to take care of her small garden. Because she knows, at least she must have some vegetables and cassava to survive the day.

Mrs. Tran Thi Bay also has a son living in the same village. Every day, the couple still go back and forth to help their mother. However, they are also poor farmers, busy all year round with farming, so they cannot be near her often. The old woman herself, despite her old age and weakness, still just wants to live in her own house, taking care of the incense for her poor youngest son. The poor old woman's life is gradually coming to a dead end.

Sympathizing with Mrs. Bay’s situation, neighbors still came and went, sometimes giving her porridge, sometimes vegetables, so that she could overcome the difficulties ahead. But that support was not enough when health and illness increasingly pushed Mrs. Bay’s life.
