At a regular press conference on September 15, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning stated that Beijing asked Washington to stop military contacts and arming Taiwan (China), if it did not want to face a "firm and resolute response" from this country.
Ms. Mao Ninh affirmed: "Lockheed Martin Corporation in St Louis, Missouri state was directly involved in the US arms sale to Taiwan (China) - announced on August 24".
Meanwhile, the aerospace and defense corporation Northrop Grumman has also sold US weapons to the island many times.
“In accordance with the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law of the People's Republic of China, China has decided to impose sanctions on the above two US defense companies,” the spokesperson said.
In August this year, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the sale of F-16 fighter jets manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation worth $500 million to Taiwan (China). Earlier, in late 2022, the agency also announced that Northrup Grumman Corporation would provide anti-tank mine deployment systems.
In addition to the above agreements, Washington announced last month that it would support Taiwan (China) with 80 million USD to buy US weapons.
According to the US Congress , the aid package could help the island purchase and refurbish armored vehicles, artillery systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and counter-UAV equipment, communications equipment and personal equipment for soldiers, as well as necessary training courses.
