Viet Tri Stadium was 'burgled'.
On the evening of January 1st, the Vietnamese national team held their final training session before the first leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final against Thailand (scheduled for 8 PM on January 2nd). This was a one-hour training session to familiarize themselves with the pitch, as per the tournament organizers' protocol.
However, an incident occurred during the training session when a group of three people climbed onto the stadium's scoreboard to film and livestream the training. This action was immediately detected by the security team at Viet Tri Stadium. Security personnel intervened, preventing information about the training session from being leaked.

According to regulations from the Vietnam Football Federation and the tournament organizers, press and media agencies (with press passes) are only allowed to cover the first 10 minutes of official training sessions of the Vietnamese national team.
After this period, the teams will train behind closed doors, under the close supervision of security forces. This is to ensure tactical secrecy and help players maintain focus before the match.
The Vietnamese national team has completed its preparations for the first leg of the final against Thailand. Except for Van Toan and Tan Tai (due to injury), coach Kim Sang-sik still has 24 players available for the decisive match.
The Vietnamese national team is just one final hurdle away from winning the 2024 AFF Cup: Thailand. After overcoming Singapore in the semi-finals and topping their group which included Indonesia and the Philippines, Coach Kim's team is full of hope of finally lifting the trophy after a six-year wait.
However, Thailand has been a nightmare for Vietnamese football for many years. In the last 7 encounters, Quang Hai and his teammates have not won a single match. In the 4 matches at the AFF Cup in 2022 and 2020, the Vietnamese team only drew or lost, and even failed to score in 3 matches.

"The Thai national team is a formidable opponent, but is there any mountain that cannot be overcome? I hope I can lead the Vietnamese national team to the top. I hope the players perform well," Kim Sang-sik shared.
After six months of training, Mr. Kim achieved his first goal with the Vietnamese national team: reaching the AFF Cup final. His second goal was to help Vietnam perform well against Thailand, something that has happened in history, but not frequently. The last time the Vietnamese national team beat Thailand in the AFF Cup was in 2008, in the first leg of the final at the Rajamangala Stadium.
