People's Artist My Uyen participates in historical plays on Korean stage

(NLDO) - Early September, People's Artist My Uyen - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater - will leave for Korea.

People's Artist My Uyen said she will participate in the historical musical "General Jang Han Sang". This is considered a grand live art project, evaluated by the Korean press as "a beautiful epic on stage and water".

My Uyen with special international cooperation mark

In the play, People's Artist My Uyen plays the role of Mrs. Jang Han Sang, the wife who sees her husband off to protect the country's borders. The role of the general is played by artist and academic musical singer Kim Jun Hyun. People's Artist My Uyen's performance will appear prominently in chapter 7, with dramatic dialogue, choreography and singing that require emotional separation, where the director will push the drama to its climax.

Musician Van Tu Quy (HCMC) is currently supporting the Korean-Vietnamese transcription so that People's Artist My Uyen can best complete her performances in the play.

Sharing about the opportunity for cooperation, People's Artist My Uyen said: "Based on the cultural exchange agreement between the Busan Theater Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association signed in 2024, the two sides have had many exciting activities so far. In April 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City theater troupe went to Busan to perform and exchange, leaving a deep impression. It was during these meetings that director - screenwriter Lee Jung Nam (Chairman of the Busan Theater Association, also the author and general director of the play "General Jang Han Sang") noticed the dedication of People's Artist My Uyen.

He personally watched five plays in which she participated and admitted that "despite the language difference, People's Artist My Uyen's emotions were still transmitted to the audience."

My Uyen, from impression to belief

Before accepting the invitation to participate in this project, People's Artist My Uyen had participated in a number of exchange programs at the Busan Theater Festival with the crew of the play "Comrade" (author Le Thu Hanh, director People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, assistant director Quoc Thinh).

For director Lee Jung Nam, choosing People's Artist My Uyen to play the role of Mrs. Jang Han Sang is an extension of an artistic relationship, and at the same time a trust in a Vietnamese artist with acting talent and the ability to master many types of performance.

According to the schedule, My Uyen will participate in 4 performances on September 11, 12, 13 and 14 at Gubong Park, Namdaecheon River, Uiseong, Gyeongbuk Province (Korea). This is a place with a special stage design on the water, combining 3D projection technology with the La Maison Productions crew (France).

People's Artist My Uyen said that the work she will be participating in is a true story about General Jang Han Sang in the 17th century, who contributed to protecting the country during a period of tumultuous development. The play combines many modern theatrical techniques, Uiseong folk music and academic musical art.

In particular, the character of the wife, played by People's Artist My Uyen, will sing a traditional folk song, depicting the feelings of a wife bidding farewell to her husband, evoking the humanistic depth of the work.

My Uyen persistently keeps the fire burning

With over 30 years of experience on stage, People's Artist My Uyen is considered by experts to be a versatile actress. She has managed, acted and directed several plays to light up the "5B" stage.

Since graduating from Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema in 1995, she has devoted almost her entire career to the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater.

At Theater 5B, she always creates conditions for young actors to try their hand, from stage to cinema, many faces have matured and achieved success thanks to her guidance.

The transformation into Mrs. Jang Han Sang promises to be a step forward in the Vietnam - Korea art exchange of People's Artist My Uyen. She considers this an important milestone in her artistic career when she is able to perform in Korea.

"This is an opportunity for me to try to overcome the language barrier and immerse myself in the flow of the world stage," said People's Artist My Uyen.
