Confused and threatened, and psychologically manipulated by scammers who called and impersonated authorities, a female student in Hue was swindled out of 65 million VND.
On March 4th, according to information from the University of Education, Hue University, a female student from the school was recently scammed out of 65 million VND by criminals impersonating government officials to threaten her.
Specifically, on the evening of March 2nd, NTT (21 years old, a third-year student at the University of Education, Hue University) received a call from an unknown number, with the caller claiming to be from a government agency and threatening T. with the accusation that T. was involved in a money laundering ring.
After realizing she had been scammed, the female student reported the incident to the University of Education, Hue University.
The female student was threatened and psychologically manipulated, so she transferred 65 million VND to the account provided by this person.
After realizing she had been deceived, student T. reported the incident to the school, which then guided her to the police station to file a report.
According to the female student, although she was aware of the scam, she was too worried, confused, and psychologically manipulated, which led her to fall for it.
Dr. Le Ho Son, Rector of the University of Education, Hue University, said that this money comes from students' savings and funds received from the policy supporting tuition fees and living expenses for students in the education major according to Decree 116/2020.
Following this incident, the University of Education, Hue University, also recommends that students continuously update themselves with official information and contact the police to identify and avoid fraudulent schemes.
